Kentlands Bar Crawl Raises More Than $1700 For Charity

The Kentlands Bar Crawl, an event that started over 20 years ago and has grown to include more than 150 people this year, has raised $1720 for Feed the Fridge.

Kristin Johnston, one of the newer organizers of the event who joined original organizers Sue Kravitz and Debbie Freedman last year, tells us that this year’s event raise $860 that was matched by Feed the Fridge founder Mark and Amy Bucher for a total of $1720 raised.

Feed the Fridge is an effort to bring nourishment where there is hunger while helping small, local restaurants stay in business. This is done by placing refrigerators around the DC metro area and paying local restaurants to fill them with fresh meals daily. They also hand-deliver holiday meals to seniors who cannot leave their homes. Though it started as a short-term response to the pandemic, the founders have realized that they play a major role in solving hunger by transforming “food insecurity” into “meal security.”

Last year, the Kentlands Bar Crawl raised $800 for Comfort Cases and added an additional 50+ pairs of new pajamas donated for kids. This year, QR codes were placed at all of the participating restaurants/bars (full list below) that allowed participants to scan and donate at anytime. Over the course of the day, which began at Vasili’s Kitchen at 3pm and ended at Brews & Barrels after 10pm, over 150 people participated.

This year, participants included Vasili’s, Bonefish, Coal Fire, Grape Escape, Vine Alley, Burton’s, Dog Haus, and Brews & Barrels. Next year, the group plans to have two bar crawls to benefit two different charities on separate days with Grilled Oyster Co. and Quincy’s Clubhouse joining the mix.
