According to District 3 Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos, MCPD officers seized two illegally possessed guns during proactive patrols this week, including one discovered during a traffic stop and another recovered from a suspect observed handling a gun in their waistband.
Cokinos wrote, “Two more illegally possessed guns taken off the street 🚔🔫 This week your @mcpnews 3rd District officers were busy conducting proactive policing to help increase community safety.
In one case, proactive patrol officers downtown conducted a traffic stop which led to the seizure of drugs that were possessed with the intent to distribute. A search warrant was obtained to search the suspect’s vehicle which led to the seizure of a loaded handgun.
In an another case, plain clothes 👕👖 officers observed a subject manipulating a gun in their waistband while walking down the street. The subject was stopped and a loaded handgun with an extended magazine was recovered.
By proactively removing illegally possessed guns from our streets we very likely prevent future shootings and/or homicides.”
