Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to 18600 Village Fountain Dr., near Clopper Rd, in Germantown for a fire at a middle-of-the-row townhouse (with residential sprinklers) on Tuesday morning.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, units arrived at the three-story townhouse to find heavy smoke conditions. All of the occupants were outside of the home, but two cats were reported to still be inside.
Approximately 55 firefighters were on the scene and the cats were located and removed from the home for treatment, but unfortunately did not survive (likely cause of death was smoke inhalation). Smoke alarms alerted the residents of the fire, and the cause was accidental and electrical in nature, according to Piringer. Two people have been displaced and the damage is estimated to be approximately $150K. Photo courtesy Google Maps
