Airport Cafe in Gaithersburg Sold

by Patrick Herron

The Airport Cafe, located at 7940 Airpark Rd. in Gaithersburg has announced the restaurant has been sold.

On Monday, former owner Laura Kerwin wrote the following on the cafés Facebook page:

“This is my final posting as the owner of The Airport Café. The new owners have told me they plan to reopen in the Spring. I will post opening day information here. After that you should be able to follow the new owners Facebook page.

I want thank my awesome staff for making this little Café one of the best places to eat in the area. They helped make my dream come true and made going to work fun and exciting every day!

Thank you to our loyal customers for supporting us over the years. We truly appreciate your business. Most days it felt as though I was feeding family and friends, not customers. That’s what made this place so special to me. Plus the food was pretty darn good!”

The Airport Café had been closed since August of 2020.

From our 2018 Hidden Gems feature on the cafe:
Having grown up in Gaithersburg, heading over to The Airport Cafe to watch the planes was something I’d do once every couple years. As I’ve gotten older, enjoying their $15 all-you-can-eat brunch buffet on Sundays has made it a deal that’s tough to beat.

Outdoor seating, plane-watching, brunch, and an inexpensive good time for the whole family.

One of the people in my party this morning is pregnant and the manager/owner came out and personally offered to make her something that wasn’t included in the brunch buffet, which was awesome!

Below you’ll see a few photos we’ve taken at the café over the years.
