Beyond MoCo: Maryland Native Scott Hall (Razor Ramon) Has Passed Away

Professional wrestler Scott Hall, known to many as “Razor Ramon” has passed away after suffering three heart attacks, stemming from a serious complication following hip surgery when a blood clot was dislodged.

Hall, whose father was in the military, moved around a lot when he was a child, but was born in St. Mary’s County in Maryland.

He catapulted to fame in the 90s as “Razor Ramon” in the WWF, winning the intercontinental championship four times. He was also a founding member of the nWo, as Scott Hall, in rival promotion WCW in 1996.

In 2011, ESPN’s E:60 featured a documentary detailing Hall’s experience with drugs and alcohol. It included interviews with several of Hall’s family members (including his ex-wife and his son, Cody), as well as several prominent figures and close friends from the wrestling industry.

In early 2013, former professional wrestler Diamond Dallas Page invited Hall into his home in order for Hall to stay sober and “rebuild his life from the ground up… physically, mentally, professionally, and spiritually.” Page also initiated a fundraising drive, which raised nearly $110,000 ($30,000 over their $80,000 goal) to pay for hip replacement surgery and dental work for Hall.

Hall was hospitalized after falling and breaking his hip. After Hall underwent hip surgery, a blood clot was dislodged, resulting in Hall suffering three heart attacks on March 12, after-which he was put on life support in Wellstar Kennstone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia.

His close friend, professional wrestler Kevin Nash, posted the following on his social media:

“Scott’s on life support. Once his family is in place they will discontinue life support. I’m going to lose the one person on this planet I’ve spent more of my life with than anyone else. My heart is broken and I’m so very f*cking sad. I love Scott with all my heart but now I have to prepare my life without him in the present. I’ve been blessed to have a friend that took me at face value and I him. When we jumped to WCW we didn’t care who liked or hated us. We had each other and with the smooth Barry Bloom we changed wrestling both in content and pay for those……alot that disliked us. We were the “Outsiders ” but we had each other. Scott always felt he wasn’t worthy of the afterlife. Well God please have some gold plated toothpicks for my brother. My life was enriched with his take on life. He wasn’t perfect but as he always said “The last perfect person to walk the planet they nailed to a cross ” As we prepare for life without him just remember there goes a great guy you ain’t going to see another one like him again. See Ya down the road Scott. I couldn’t love a human being any more than I do you.”

At 8pm, WWE announced Scott Hall passed away.
