Gaithersburg Man Wins $100,000 On Scratch-Off Ticket He Bought in Poolesville

Per MD Lottery: Mild-mannered bank employee by day and Lottery aficionado by night, a Gaithersburg man visited Lottery headquarters this week to claim the winning instant ticket of his dreams. His top-prize win on a $100,000 Extreme Cashscratch-off has relieved him of a years-long concern about how to pay for college for his daughter.“I really enjoy these tickets,” the 54-year-old told Lottery officials. “Scratching one or two every day after work is something that I look forward to.” The Montgomery County man included the $100,000 Extreme Cash in a recent purchase because it has 64 chances to win $100,000 and 44 chances to win a prize of $30 or more.

“Sure, other games have million-dollar jackpots, but $100,000 is a ton of money to me, a giant prize, and this game has a lot of them,” he said.

The loyal player was stunned when he saw the matches that suggested his $30 scratch-off was one of the game’s top-prize winners. “I examined the ticket six or seven times to be sure.” Still not satisfied, he scanned it another six or seven times using the Lottery app on his phone. “I kept coming up with a $100,000 win every time and every way I checked. It was so exciting, and such a relief.”

The winner’s excitement is easy to understand. With a little more info, his relief is, too.

“My daughter starts college soon and, after a lot of figuring and moving things around, I was pretty sure that I had a handle on how to cover the tuition. This just makes it so much less complicated.”

The $100,000 Extreme Cash game went on sale in September 2020 with 64 top prizes available. This win leaves 18 unclaimed top prizes along with 12 $5,000 prizes and more than 240,000 prizes ranging from $30 to $500.

The lucky store in his winning story was Village Beer & Wine at 19710 Fisher Avenue in Poolesville. The Lottery retailer receives a $1,000 bonus for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
