Gaithersburg Oktoberfest Cancelled
The City of Gaithersburg has cancelled their Oktoberfest event scheduled for Sunday, October 10 due to the ongoing pandemic.
Per the City of Gaithersburg:
The City of Gaithersburg announces the cancellation of its annual Oktoberfest celebration, which was scheduled for Sunday, October 10 in Kentlands. “With the Delta variant still pervasive in our community, we felt it was prudent to cancel the event for this year,” said Carolyn Muller, Director of the Department Parks, Recreation and Culture. “The event takes place in a very large geographic area, and it historically attracts crowds of 20,000+. There is no practical way to control entry points and crowd size, and we do not want to scale the event back to a level that would be disappointing for guests, entertainers and vendors.”
Special events staff is busy planning a number of smaller events that can be held safely. These may include outdoor movies and concerts where social distancing can be maintained, fall-themed activities at our popular Casey and Main Street Farmers Markets, and Halloween activities at several venues. Details will be provided as they become available.
