The Board of Education passed a resolution today to close all schools and offices on November 24, the day before Thanksgiving. The day is traditionally a half day for students and staff at Montgomery County Public Schools.
Interim Superintendent of Schools Monifa McKnight released the following message:
“Dear MCPS Staff,
Today the Board of Education passed a resolution to close all schools and offices on Wednesday, November 24, the day before Thanksgiving. This will provide an extra day for staff and students to be with family and friends during Thanksgiving break. November 24 was originally scheduled to be an early-release day for all staff and students. Schools and offices will now be closed from Wednesday, November 24 through Friday, November 26. Schools and offices will reopen on Monday, November 29. All staff scheduled to work on Wednesday, November 24, will be paid, and no staff members will be charged leave for this date; this will be a holiday for all staff and will be marked as HOL on your timesheet.
I want to express my deep appreciation to each of you for all that you do for our students. I am profoundly grateful to be a part of the MCPS family. I hope you are able to take some time to rest and recharge during the extended Thanksgiving Break.
Monifa B. McKnight, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent of Schools”
