Montgomery Village Update (What’s New, What’s Closed, and What’s Coming Soon)

Below is a list of restaurants and businesses that have recently opened or will be coming soon to Montgomery Village, MD:

Coming Soon: Dunkin’
Dunkin’ is continuing its massive expansion across the country and in MoCo, with an upcoming location coming to the Goshen Crossing Shopping Center in the former Capital One Bank building at 20000 Goshen Rd. Since Inspire Brands acquired Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins in late 2020 for $11.3 billion, the company has been opening in former bank locations that allow for easy installation of a drive-thru window. Dunkin has also aimed for non-traditional development that includes opening in airports and on college campuses, including the University of Maryland.

Now Open: The Joint
The Joint, an “affordable chiropractic care center,”  opened at 19218 Montgomery Village Ave in the Montgomery Village Center in November.  The Joint is a Scottsdale, Arizona based operator and franchisor of chiropractic clinics, which operates over 700 clinics nationwide. It was originally founded in 1999 by a Doctor of Chiropractic with “a vision to transform the traditional, often misunderstood concept of routine chiropractic care by making it more convenient, friendly and affordable.” In March 2010, The Joint was re-founded with the acquisition of the original eight franchised clinics.

Now Open: New Fashion Hair Salon
New Fashion Hair Salon at 20217 Goshen Rd in the Goshen Oaks Shopping Center held their soft opening on December 10.  The salon has been remodeled and is now under new ownership/management.

Now Open: Vape Shop
A new vape and e-cigarette shop has opened at 9116 Rothbury Dr in the Goshen Plaza Shopping Center, taking over the space previously occupied by I Love Kickboxing.  The new store sells tobacco, vape cartridges, hookah, and kratom, an herbal supplement that has “opioid properties and some stimulant-like effects.”

Closed: Hogabs Jerky / Coming Soon: Braiding Center 
Hogabs Jerky at 19332 Montgomery Village Ave (formerly TV-VCR Repair) officially closed in November. The specialty beef jerky shop opened for business in October 2021. According to KLNB, Hogabs is being replaced by the Braiding Center.

Coming Soon: Montgomery Village Center
The following business are currently under construction at the Montgomery Village Center and are expected to open in the first quarter of 2023:
Baskin Robins:
Back in January, @themocosource first reported that Baskin Robbins would be coming to the Montgomery Village Shopping Center.  The ice cream shop will be coming to the vacant space next to Suburban Hair and Linda’s Nails. No opening date has been announced.

BooBoo Pho:
Permanent signage is up at BooBoo Pho at 19230 Montgomery Village Ave. The restaurant, which specializes in Vietnamese cuisine, is expected to open in January.

Dickey’s BBQ:
In May we reported that Dickey’s Barbecue Pit will be opening a new location in the center, next to the upcoming Kobe Japan (which is next to the Moe’s). Dickey’s Barbecue Pit previously opened a Montgomery County location in Germantown back in February 2013. The restaurant closed the following year and reopened under new management in July 2014 before closing permanently in early 2016. The first Maryland location was in Gambrills, but has since closed. Currently there are nearby locations in Pasadena, MD, two in Fairfax VA, and one in Alexandria VA. No opening date has been announced.

Fiesta Laundromat:
Fiesta Laundromat, which currently has a location  at 7601 New Hampshire Ave in Takoma Park, will be opening in the center next to Boo Boo Pho and across from the MV Animal Hospital, according to KLNB. Per their website, “At Fiesta Laundromat, we take immense pride in our work, whether we are working with large-scale corporate clients, individual laundry clients or our walk-in customers. Take a look around our website and learn more about the variety of laundry services we offer.”

Hangry Joe’s:
In August we reported that Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken is coming to the Montgomery Village Shopping Center and will be located in the brand new space next to the recently opened Starbucks. Earlier this year Hangry Joe’s opened locations at 2533 Ennals Ave in Wheaton, 10050 Darnestown Road in the Travilah Square shopping center, and 718-B Rockville Pike.

Kobe Japan:
Construction is ongoing at the site of Kobe Japan Hibachi And Sushi . The restaurant has additional locations at 1163 University Blvd E in Takoma Park and 13623 Georgia Ave. Suit A in Aspen Hill. According to their website, the menu features, sushi and sashimi, bento boxes and hibachi.

Bethesda Film Fest

The 2024 Bethesda Film Fest will feature five short documentary films made by filmmakers from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Screenings will be held Friday April 5 and Saturday April 6 at Landmark Bethesda Row Cinema.
