by MCS Staff

Seneca Valley High School athletic director Jesse Irvin has announced Quintin Cosby as the sixth head coach in the storied history of Seneca Valley football. The full announcement can be seen below, courtesy of Seneca Valley Athletics:

“The Seneca Valley High School Athletic Department and Administration is pleased to announce the hiring of our new head football coach, Mr. Quintin Cosby. Coach Cosby is the sixth head coach in the storied history of Seneca Valley Football. Quintin takes over the reins from Mr. Joseph Rankin.

Quintin Cosby is a (2005) Seneca Valley graduate, a three-year varsity starter, who played under coaching legends Terry Changuris and Fred Kim. Additionally, Mr. Cosby was a starting Fullback on the 2002 State Championship Team. During Mr. Cosby’s senior year, he rushed for over 1400 yards and 26 touchdowns landing him a spot on the Montgomery County, MD “All-County” and “All-State” Team.

Following high school, Mr. Cosby pursued higher education at North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T). Mr. Cosby started off as an Aggie, Preferred Walk On (PWO) then worked his way to earn himself a full football scholarship. During his Football career at NCA & T Mr. Cosby became a Middle Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Conference Punt Returner. Mr. Cosby majored in Sports Science & Fitness Management (Leisure Studies) while attending NC A&T.

Following College, Mr. Cosby became involved in the ongoing youth program in the Gaithersburg-Germantown Area known as the “Montgomery Village Chiefs” (MV Chiefs) where he coached and played. Due to Mr. Cosby’s tremendous work ethic, he won multiple League and Regional Championships, and an AYF National Championship. In 2016, Mr. Cosby who is now known widely as “Coach Q”, duties were elevated whereas he became both head coach and Commissioner of the MV Chiefs. Mr. Cosby, who always puts the children first, partnered with Joseph Hooks and his 480 Club, both working in concert to serve the youth and community of Montgomery Village for over ten years. As Mr. Cosby’s youth program excelled, he began to set higher expectations and take his coaching abilities to the next level by accepting the role at Seneca Valley in 2015 as Running Back Coach under Coach Fred Kim. Following that opportunity, Mr. Cosby took time off to focus more on youth development and serving the greater Montgomery Village community.

During the COVID19 season, Mr. Cosby was able to re-join the “new” Seneca Valley High School coaching staff in efforts to help bring SVHS back to their “glory days”. He accepted this opportunity under Coach Sickeri and Coach Rankin as the Offensive Coordinator for Seneca Valley Football. Being that Mr. Cosby’s goal was always to be the Seneca Valley Head Football Coach he wants to convey a statement that he feels sums his work ethic on and off the field, “I want to build respectable young men; character goes a long way in life, then a Championship.” “We will win in the classroom and in the community, which will also translate to the field, that’s how you build Champions”. Mr. Cosby wore the #6 in his SV days and now will be Seneca Valley’s 6th Head Football Coach and knows what it takes to win, as well as how important it is to serve our community.

We are extremely excited to introduce Quintin as our next Head Varsity Football Coach. Please look for communication over the next few days regarding a player meeting and a potential parent/guardian meeting.

Sincerely,
Jesse Irvin
Athletic Director
Seneca Valley High School”
