Suspect in Custody After Shooting in Montgomery Village Puts Five Schools in Shelter-in-Place

Update: The shelter-in-place at all schools has been lifted.
A suspect is in custody after a shooting in Montgomery Village put five nearby schools under a “shelter-in-place” on Tuesday afternoon. According to a police spokesperson, Montgomery County Police responded to the 9900 block of Lake Landing Rd. in Montgomery Village around 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 7 and located two males of unknown age that were suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Watkins Mill HS, Watkins Mill ES, Montgomery Village MS, Whetstone ES and Stedwick ES were the five school affected. MCPD has advised that MCPS can lift the shelter-in-place.

Per MCPS:  “Due to police activity in the area, Watkins Mill HS, Watkins Mill ES, Stedwick ES, Whetstone ES, and Montgomery Village MS are in a shelter in place. Normal operations continue inside the buildings while exterior doors are locked. Police believe there is no direct threat to the schools. Schools will proceed with a normal dismissal.”
