Dr. William Dahut, a Bethesda resident who is also a professor of medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, has been named Chief Scientific Officer for the American Cancer Society.

The region has not hosted a professional golf tournament since the 2018 PGA Quicken Loans National was held at TPC Potomac. After this year, the Wells Fargo Championship will return to its home base at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Quail Hollow is hosting the Presidents Cup in September (following a postponement in 2021 because of the pandemic), compelling the PGA Tour to find an alternate site.
The Purple Line Transit Partners announced on Thursday that they have secured funding to complete the remainder of construction on the Purple Line, as well as for future operations and management. The purple line is a 16-mile light-rail line with 21 stations that will go from Bethesda New Carrollton in Prince George’s County.

Yirasai Sushi opens today at its new location at 12525 Park Potomac Ave. Building G in Park Potomac. The restaurant is taking over the space formerly occupied by Elevation Burger.
Yirasai was previously located at 5110 Ridgefield Road in the Westwood Shipping Center in Bethesda.
Jim Morrison was the lead singer of the rock band The Doors, who passed away at the age of 27 in 1971. Morrison is widely regarded as one of the “best singers” of all time”, coming in at #5 on Rolling Stone magazines “Best Lead Singers of All Time” list in 2011 and at #47 on the magazines “Best Singers of All Time” list, but did you know he also briefly lived in Montgomery County as a child?

Alex Flum of WDVM reports that Rory McIlroy, currently ranked 7th in the world, will compete in the Wells Fargo Championship at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in May.
McIlroy is coming off of a second place finish at the Masters, where he finished 3 strokes behind winner Scottie Scheffler.

Back in November we let you know that The Pretzel Bakery, which opened it’s DC location at 257 15th Street SE in DC back in 2012, was coming to Cabin John Village in Potomac. The bakery is located in the space formerly occupied by the Hair Cuttery at 7961 Tuckerman Ln. According to its website, the Pretzel Bakery serves small batch, hand-rolled, Philadelphia-style soft pretzels fresh-out-of-the-oven all day. In addition to traditional pretzels, they also sell pretzel dogs, pretzel calzones, stuffed pretzel “bombs”, and pretzel sliders.

KID Museum will open in its new flagship site at Bethesda Metro Center — a brand new, 28,000 square foot facility “created to foster the “Mind of a Maker” and empower the next generation with the skills to invent the future.” The grand opening event will take place on May 22, 2022 at 3 Bethesda Metro Center, Suite 140.
The state-of-the-art makerspace is purpose-built for kids ages 4-14 to explore coding, robotics, engineering design, and hands-on maker learning, with the capacity to welcome more than 100,000 visitors every year. There will be grand opening events, becoming a member, or sponsoring us to help all kids discover a love of exploring, creating, and collaborating to become makers of the future.
