Madewell Coming to Bethesda Row in Summer 2022

Update on 12/27 to reflect the correct address of the upcoming Madewell location. The press release initially included an incorrect address that is the current location of Lululemon. Lululemon is not closing.

North Bethesda, Md., (December 20, 2021) – Federal Realty Investment Trust (NYSE:FRT) announces that Madewell will open at Bethesda Row in Bethesda, Md., in summer 2022. The 3,080-square-foot retail store located at 4839 Bethesda Avenue, the former home of Nando’s Peri-Peri, and will feature its signature women and men’s denim and all the tenets of a fantastic wardrobe.

&pizza was founded by Michael Lastoria and Steve Salis (Ted’s Bulletin, Federalist Pig, and Ensemble) in 2012 with their first location on H Street in D.C. The growing chain now has over 36 locations across the east coast including MoCo locations in Bethesda, Gaithersburg (Crown), Germantown, Pike & Rose, Silver Spring and a second Gaithersburg location coming soon.

BusyBees Children’s Play Space to Close Permanently

BusyBees Chevy Chase will be closing its doors permanently on January 1st, 2022, according to an email sent out to customers this evening.

The children’s play space opened in Chevy Chase back in 2017 after opening in Falls Church in 2015, but states that staff shortages have made their brand unreliable. BusyBees previously closed it’s Fairfax Corner location.

MoCo Native Tim Kurkjian Wins 2022 BBWAA Career Excellence Award

Tim Kurkjian attended Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, where he played on the school’s basketball and baseball teams. At the suggestion of his basketball coach, Kurkjian began writing for the student newspaper, The Pitch, and the school’s yearbook, “The Wind-up.

He eventually became the sports editor of The Pitch and realized that journalism would be the surest means of fulfilling his childhood dream of making a living in professional sports. He graduated from the school in 1974 and after some time away, still lives in MoCo today.

Opening Date for Shake Shack in Montgomery Mall

Westfield Montgomery Mall has announced that Shake Shack will be opening its new location this Monday, December 20.

The Shake Shack will be located at the former site of Poke Papa inside of the mall’s food court.

Nando’s Peri Peri to Close Current Bethesda Location Permanently

Nando’s Peri Peri has let us know that the last day of business for its Bethesda location (4839 Bethesda Ave) will be this Saturday, December 18th. Federal Realty recently announced that Madewell will be moving in to the location in 2022.

Nando’s is a South African fast-casual chain that specializes in flame-grilled peri-peri style chicken. The restaurant was founded in Johannesburg in 1987, and now operates over 1,200 outlets in 30 countries.

Kruba Thai Coming to Park Potomac

Collins + Co. has announced that Kruba Thai will be coming to Park Potomac in the second quarter of 2022. It will be taking over the former Wine Harvest location at 12525 Park Potomac Ave B.

Kruba currently has a location at 301 Water St. near Nationals Park in Washington, DC. Their menu features sushi and traditional Thai dishes such as Panang and Drunken Noodles.

Gedion Zelalum, Walter Johnson HS/North Bethesda MS Alumnus, Wins MLS Cup with NYCFC

Back in March, NYCFC re-signed midfielder Gedion Zelalem. Today, the club won the MLS Cup– defeating Portland 4-2 in penalty kicks.

Zelalem played in 7 games this season, starting one, helping New York City to the Cup.

Georgetown Prep Moves to All Virtual After COVID-19 Outbreak

Classes will be all virtual this week for students at Georgetown Prep, a private Catholic boys school located in North Bethesda, after 30 students tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to WTOP, no teachers tested positive and “students were given the day off on Friday so teachers could prepare for the coming week of virtual learning.”
