The restaurant opened late last month and features tacos fused with flavors from across the world. They feature tacos with flavors from Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, Barbados, England, Israel, India, Korea, Japan, Sweden, and Greece.
In addition to tacos they will serve items like, chips and salsa/queso, nachos, crispy rolls, grilled meat sticks, street corn, and more.
Yesterday, Bethesda Beat reported that Matchbox will be opening on Friday, 4/5.
Matchbox currently has a location in MoCo on Rockville Pike and will be opening their Bethesda location this summer.
At that time we were not given confirmation, but I just got off the phone with a Lifetime employee from the Rockville/Potomac location and was told that they will be opening a Montgomery Mall location “within the next couple years.”
I asked if that meant the location on Seven Locks Road would close and was told that the plan is to keep all three MoCo locations open (Gaithersburg, Rockville/Potomac, and the new Bethesda location).
The restaurant, a descendant of the Louisiana Express Company, opened in 2008 under the ownership of longtime employees Carlos Arana and Jose Blanco.

Poki DC will have their soft opening at Georgetown Square in Bethesda (10400 Old Georgetown Rd., next to Not Your Average Joe’s) this Friday, 2/15, according to their recent Facebook post.
This location will also offer Gongcha Bobatea!
The bakery, best known for their cinnamon rolls cinnamon products, coffee, and frozen drinks, is rumored to be coming back to Montgomery Mall after local blog, Store Reporter, announced the return earlier today.
My contact at Montgomery Mall told me that it is not yet confirmed, but that they expect confirmation in the coming weeks.
Yesterday I spoke with Wicked Waffle and was told they’re only closed temporarily, but today I spoke with a representative from Montgomery Mall who confirmed that the waffle spot won’t be re-opening in the mall. An employee from Wicked Waffle DC also confirmed that they will not be opening the Montgomery Mall location.
The 1,900 square-foot store will be located between Sanctuary Interior Design and Irresistibles. This follows on last week’s announcement that Bethesda Bagels, featuring handmade NY-style bagels, will open this summer.
Thompson Hospitality, the restaurant group that owns Matchbox (as well as American Tap Room), decided to close their Silver Spring Hen Quarter location this past October. That Matchbox location is expected to next month.
