Arrest Made in 1988 Rape Case; Suspect Apprehended in Montgomery County

Per Fairfax County Police: A 34-year-old sexual assault case was closed on Monday with the arrest of George Thomas Jr., 61, of Arlington. George Thomas Jr. was charged with two counts of rape, sodomy and abduction for a sexual assault that occurred at 10:40 p.m. on Aug. 24, 1988. George Thomas Jr. and the late Gregory Allen Thomas of Arlington abducted the 22-year-old victim as she left her job at the Skyline Mall at 5195 Leesburg Pike.

The two brothers approached the victim in a parking garage and physically assaulted her. The victim was forced into her car and made to drive to a secluded location. The victim was led to a wooded area, and both men raped her before forcing her back into her car. The victim was made to drive to another location and raped again. The victim was able to escape to her car and drove away following the second assault. Fairfax County police officers responded the evening of the assault and forensic evidence was collected. A DNA Profile foreign to the victim was developed from the forensic evidence collected and searched against the Virginia DNA databank. The profile was also submitted to the National DNA databank. The victim provided details that were used to create a composite sketch of one of the suspects. Detectives received numerous tips with possible suspect information and followed up on all leads. No arrests were made.

Montgomery County Dentist Sentenced to More Than Two Years in Federal Prison for Scheme to Fraudulently Obtain Medicaid Funds by Recruiting Medicaid Beneficiaries Through the Payment of Kickbacks and Bribes

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: District Judge Theodore D. Chuang today sentenced Edward T. Buford III, age 70, of Silver Spring, Maryland, to 30 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for conspiracy to commit mail fraud and healthcare fraud. Judge Chuang also ordered Buford to pay $1,267,630 in restitution.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron; Special Agent in Charge Wayne Jacobs of the Federal Bureau of Investigation – Washington Field Office Criminal Division; Special Agent in Charge Maureen Dixon, Office of Investigations, Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services; Special Agent in Charge Michael McGill of the Social Security Administration – Office of Inspector General, Philadelphia Field Division; and Daniel W. Lucas, Inspector General for the District of Columbia.

Detectives Investigate Theft; Release Surveillance Photos of Suspects

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 4^th District Patrol Investigations Unit (PIU) are investigating a theft that occurred in the 13000 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them (photos below).

On Friday, October 14, 2022, at approximately 2:15 p.m., 4^th District officers responded to the location for the report of a theft that occurred earlier. The initial investigation revealed that sometime between Tuesday, October 11, 2022, and Thursday, October 13, 2022, unknown suspects entered the victim’s residence and stole her wallet and personal property.

Fourth Teen Arrested in Connection with Germantown Homicide

Per MCPD: A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the Friday, April 22, 2022, homicide of 20-year-old Taon Lamont Cline on Gunners Branch Road in Germantown.

During the course of the investigation, Major Crimes detectives discovered evidence connecting 17-year-old, Daylon Windell Miller of Germantown, to the April 22 homicide. Miller was arrested on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Man Found Guilty in Near-Decapitation Murder Case

In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before Judge David Lease, a jury has convicted defendant, Jose Lara-Chacon, 26, of Wheaton, of first-degree murder for the death of 21-year-old Dimer Diaz Martinez. The verdict came in late yesterday evening. Lara-Chacon faces a potential sentence of up to life in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 27, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

This stems from an incident on January 22, 2021 in an apartment along the 12000 block of Viers Mill Rd. in Wheaton. The defendant called 911 requesting emergency response to the scene, stating he and the victim had been drinking alcohol and that he injured the victim. During an interview with detectives, the defendant stated he hit the victim with a baseball bat twice in the head and “finished off” the victim by stabbing him in the neck.

Two Separate Robberies of Montgomery County Fast Food Restaurants Occurred on Thursday Night

Two fast-food establishments in Montgomery County were robbed on Thursday night, according to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh.

The first occurred at approximately 7:20pm at the KFC/Taco Bell on Blair Road, just east of Georgia Avenue, in Silver Spring. A male armed with a handgun obtained an unknown s sum of cash. The second robbery occurred at Popeyes on Lockwood Drive, just off of Columbia Pike and New Hampshire Ave in White Oak. An unknown sum of cash was obtained at gun point.

Man Pleads Guilty to Participating in an $800,000 Elder Fraud Scam; Included Victims in Maryland

Michael Odell Anderson, age 64, of Crystal Beach, Florida and Dun Lorring, Virginia, pleaded guilty on Monday to a federal charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, in relation to his participation in an elder fraud scam that totaled over $800,000 and included victims in the state of Maryland.

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: According to his plea agreement, from April 2020 to December 2020, Anderson conspired with others to persuade elderly victims to give them thousands of dollars under false pretenses. Specifically, members of the conspiracy called elderly victims posing as a police officer, lawyer, or relative and convinced victims to send money for the purported legal expenses of a loved one, generally a grandchild, who had been incarcerated in connection with a car accident or traffic stop involving a crime.

Man Who Used Gold Gun and Drove Gold Cadillac Arrested for Armed Robbery of Apple Store in Bethesda

The investigation by detectives has determined that Jones arrived at the location in a gold Cadillac and entered the store. After having a brief conversation with an employee about purchasing some electronic merchandise, Jones produced a semiautomatic handgun with a gold slide and an extended magazine and demanded the items. The employee handed over the merchandise to Jones, who then exited the store and left the scene in the gold Cadillac.

Woman Injured After Shots Fired During Apparent Road Rage Incident on 270 in Frederick Co.

Per the Maryland State Police: (Nov 07, 2022 ) Maryland State Police are searching for the person who fired shots at a vehicle in Frederick County this evening that injured a woman during an apparent road rage incident. The victim, not being identified at this time, was driving a dark blue Jeep Wrangler at the time of the incident. She was transported by medevac to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where she is receiving treatment for the injuries sustained in the incident.

The victim told Maryland state troopers from the Frederick Barrack that shortly before 7:45 p.m. today, she was traveling on I-270 North near the 26-mile marker. The suspect vehicle was driving behind her and flashing high beams.The victim said he changed lanes and was adjacent with her vehicle when the driver displayed a gun and fired shots into the victim’s car. She was struck in the leg. The suspect vehicle then continued driving northbound on I-270 in Frederick. Police do not have a vehicle or suspect description at this time. Troopers examining the area where the incident occurred found evidence indicating multiple shots may have been fired. The victim was traveling alone.

Second Suspect, 14-Years-Old, Arrested For Attempted Armed Robbery of Commanders Running Back Brian Robinson, Which Led to Robinson Being Shot Twice in the Leg in August

Last Wednesday, detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announced that an arrest of a 17-year-old-male was made in reference to an “Assault With Intent to Rob while Armed (Gun) offense” that occurred on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in the 1000 block of H Street, Northeast. The victim of crime was Commanders running back Brian Robinson, who was shot twice in the leg. Today, Robinson’s agent Ryan Williams announced (tweet below) that a second suspect, 14-years-old, was arrested in the attempted armed robbery of Brian Robinson. Robinson recovered and returned to the field for the Commanders just six weeks later, playing in the team’s October 9th game.

Per MPD on 11/2: At approximately 5:28 pm on August 28, the suspects approached the victim at the 1000 block of H Street NE. The suspects brandished handguns and attempted to rob the victim. During the robbery attempt, one of the suspects fired a handgun, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle without obtaining any property. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order, a 17-year-old juvenile male ( who was 16 at the time of the offense), of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob while Armed (Gun).

Man Sentenced to 10 Years for 2019 Sandy Spring Bank Robbery

Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Judge John Maloney sentenced defendant, Jhasir Devaux, to ten years in prison after a jury convicted defendant, Jhasir Devaux, 25, of Baltimore, MD, on one count of robbery on October 26th. This stems from the robbery of the Sandy Spring Bank located at 14241 Layhill Road in Silver Spring on Aug. 7^th, 2019. The defendant wore a construction vest and hospital mask (this was prior to the pandemic) when he entered the bank and passed the teller a note demanding money. Devaux made off with approximately $4,780.

The following is a summary of events: On 8-7-2019 at approximately 12:59pm, police were dispatched to a bank robbery that just occurred at the Sandy Spring Bank located at 14241 Layhill Road Silver Spring, Montgomery County, Maryland, 20906. Police Interviewed the victim bank teller. The victim stated that at 1255 hours the suspect, described as: a black male, approximately 6’3″ tall, weighing approximately 2251bs, wearing a dark blue long sleeve hooded sweatshirt, orange construction vest, yellow construction hard hat, black sunglasses, white hospital mask, blue gloves and maroon pants, entered the bank and approached her teller window, the suspect handed her a folded piece of paper and advised that his account number was on the paper and he wanted to withdraw his money from the account. She opened the piece of paper and observed It to be a note stating to give him all the money and not include any dye packs. The victim gave the suspect approximately $4,780 in US Currency from her cash drawer and observed the suspect run out the front door of the bank.
