The Takoma Park Police Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at about 11:05 am. The victim Nurhusen Hamid was working as a mobile mechanic on the Advanced Auto Store parking lot located at 6300 New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, Montgomery County, Maryland.

 


Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging four defendants with theft of mail matter and the unlawful possession of postal service keys.  The indictment was returned on July 21, 2022 and unsealed today upon the defendant’s arrests.  Charged in the indictment are:

• Eyalan Owona, age 21, of Upper Malboro, Maryland;


Today Judge Jeannie Cho, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, sentenced defendant, Jordan Ryan Moreno, 23, of Washington D.C. to 50 years in prison, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney Office. Moreno pleaded guilty on June 29th, 2022 to first-degree murder for the death of Sara Gutierrez-Villatoro in 2019. He also has federal charges pending. Moreno is one of four co-defendants in this case, which also includes:

• Defendant, Rigoberto Machado A.K.A. “Crazy,” 18, of Washington, D.C. previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.


Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, Judge David Lease sentenced defendant, Leslie J. Lee, 37, to twenty-five years in prison with no parole. Lee pleaded guilty on June 22, 2022, to charges of armed carjacking, carjacking and first-degree assault. The first two charges stem from carjacking incidents in November of 2021. The assault charge is connected to an unrelated domestic violence incident. Details on the carjacking cases:

In the first incident on Nov. 7th, Lee noticed a 68-year-old woman alone in a vehicle parked at the Exxon along the 3000 block of Briggs Chaney Rd. while her daughter was inside the store. He got into the driver’s seat and ordered her out, then took off with the car and the victims’ belongings inside. It happened in broad daylight.


Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Columbia: Susan Engonwei Tingwei, 44, of Silver Spring, Md., a licensed attorney, was sentenced today to 10 months in prison for defrauding the D.C. Medicaid program out of more than $100,000 in a scheme involving false claims about personal care services. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, Wayne A. Jacobs, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office’s Criminal Division, Maureen R. Dixon, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General for the region that includes Washington, D.C., and Daniel W. Lucas, Inspector General for the District of Columbia.

Tingwei pleaded guilty in November 2021, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, to health care fraud. She was sentenced by the Honorable Carl J. Nichols. Following her prison term, she will be placed on two years of supervised release. She also must pay $131,656 in restitution and an identical amount in a forfeiture money judgment. In court documents, Tingwei admitted that at various times between 2016 and 2018, she was employed by two different home health agencies in the District of Columbia. The home health agencies employed her to assist D.C. Medicaid beneficiaries in performing activities of daily living, such as getting in and out of bed, bathing, dressing, and eating. Tingwei was supposed to document the care that she provided to Medicaid beneficiaries on timesheets and then submit the timesheets to the home health agencies, which would in turn bill Medicaid for the services that she rendered. As part of her guilty plea, Tingwei admitted that she submitted false timesheets claiming to provide services that she did not actually render.


Per Frederick Police: At approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 23, 2022 an FPD officer was patrolling the North Market Street area when he heard a gunshot in the 300 Block of North Market Street.

Upon arriving on scene, the officer located an individual, later identified as Michael Isaiah Olaniyi, 26, of Montgomery Village, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Mr. Olaniyi was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

At that time, an unknown suspect approached the victim and shot at him several times striking him. On Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Montgomery County Police 3rd District officers responded to the Sandy Spring Bank, located on the 3500 block of Spencerville Rd. in Burtonsville, for a bank robbery that just occurred. The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 3:10 p.m., the male suspect entered the bank and approached a teller window. Once at the window, the suspect slid a note to the teller, announcing the robbery and demanding money. The teller complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect left the bank in an unknown direction.


Metro Transit Police today announced the arrest of 38-year-old Tiwan D. Sweet of Washington, DC in connection with an overnight assault at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center in Silver Spring. Sweet is charged with Attempted First Degree Rape.

Per the press release, the attack occurred shortly after 3 a.m. as the female victim waited at the transit center. Based upon evidence obtained by MTPD, Sweet, who is unknown to the victim, is accused of trying to force himself on the victim and physically assaulting her. The victim yelled for help and shortly after Montgomery County Police responded and intervened in the attack. The suspect was detained and arrested upon arrival of MTPD. “This is a heinous crime against an innocent victim and the community is now safer with this arrest,” said MTPD Chief Michael Anzallo. “We appreciate the assistance of Montgomery County Police who arrived quickly on scene and stopped the suspect.”


Rockville City Police Detectives have arrested and charged a man with attempted first-degree murder. On July 15, 2022 at 1:45 a.m. officers responded to the 100 block of Gibbs Street for the report of a fight in progress, which was then updated to a shooting. Responding officers located an adult male victim shot three times, he was transported to an area hospital where he continues to recover from his non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation has revealed that a verbal dispute took place between the suspect and the victim, who are known acquaintances of each other. The verbal dispute escalated into a physical fight, the suspect took out a handgun and fired it several times striking the victim. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
