Per Gaithersburg Police: Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department – Investigative Section investigated a suspicious situation that occurred at the Target located at 25 Grand Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg.
On Saturday, August 6, 2022 at approximately 8:17 p.m, officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department and Montgomery County Police Department – 6th District responded to the Target located at 25 Grand Corner Avenue for a suspicious situation involving a subject with a gun. The subject was located and taken into custody without incident. A BB gun was located on the person. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at approximately 2:05 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the location for the report for an armed robbery that just occurred.
The investigation by detectives has determined that two suspects, traveling in a silver Chevrolet Cruz, entered the drive‐thru and ordered food. One of the suspects exited the vehicle, approached the cashier’s window, displayed a black handgun and told the cashier to leave. The cashier complied. The suspect then reached through the window and removed an undisclosed amount of money from a cash drawer. The suspects then left the location in the Chevrolet traveling eastbound on University Blvd W.

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: Jordan Moreno, a/k/a “Joker”, age 23, a Honduran national recently of Washington, DC, pleaded guilty yesterday to federal kidnapping charges related to the death of Victim 1, a 19-year old woman. Moreno had previously pleaded guilty in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County to First Degree Murder in Victim 1’s death.
Per the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis sentenced Thomas Patrick Connally, Jr., age 56, most recently of Snowshoe, West Virginia to 37 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for making threats against a federal official, specifically for sending emails threatening harm to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the current Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Connally further admitted threatening Dr. Francis Collins, the former Director of the NIH, Dr. Rachel Levine, currently the Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as well as a Massachusetts public health official and a religious leader.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron and Deputy Inspector General for Investigations Christian J. Schrank, Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
State’s Attorney John McCarthy today provided an update on defendant, Catherine Hoggle, the mother charged with murder of her two young children, Sarah and Jacob Hoggle, who have been missing since 2014. The State asked for the judge to voir dire (question) Catherine Hoggle in order to assist in the court’s determination of her competency. Judge Jordan invited both the State and the defense to submit questions for him to potentially include if he does speak with the defendant. He also indicated that he would be interested in hearing from witnesses. The hearing was continued. Preliminarily, a date of October 7th was discussed, but still needs to be confirmed. Background of the case, per the Maryland Court of Special Appeals: Catherine Hoggle is the mother of Sarah Hoggle and Jacob Hoggle. According to the State, the two children were last seen in the care of their mother on September 7, 2014. At that time, Sarah was five years old, and Jacob was three years old. Hoggle was arrested three days after the children disappeared. Officers interrogated her for several hours, but they did not learn the location of the children.
Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: James Albert Borum, age 19, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty on July 29, 2022, to federal charges of carjacking and to brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

The Takoma Park Police Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at about 11:05 am. The victim Nurhusen Hamid was working as a mobile mechanic on the Advanced Auto Store parking lot located at 6300 New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, Montgomery County, Maryland.
Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging four defendants with theft of mail matter and the unlawful possession of postal service keys. The indictment was returned on July 21, 2022 and unsealed today upon the defendant’s arrests. Charged in the indictment are:
• Eyalan Owona, age 21, of Upper Malboro, Maryland;
Today Judge Jeannie Cho, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, sentenced defendant, Jordan Ryan Moreno, 23, of Washington D.C. to 50 years in prison, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney Office. Moreno pleaded guilty on June 29th, 2022 to first-degree murder for the death of Sara Gutierrez-Villatoro in 2019. He also has federal charges pending. Moreno is one of four co-defendants in this case, which also includes:
• Defendant, Rigoberto Machado A.K.A. “Crazy,” 18, of Washington, D.C. previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, Judge David Lease sentenced defendant, Leslie J. Lee, 37, to twenty-five years in prison with no parole. Lee pleaded guilty on June 22, 2022, to charges of armed carjacking, carjacking and first-degree assault. The first two charges stem from carjacking incidents in November of 2021. The assault charge is connected to an unrelated domestic violence incident. Details on the carjacking cases:
In the first incident on Nov. 7th, Lee noticed a 68-year-old woman alone in a vehicle parked at the Exxon along the 3000 block of Briggs Chaney Rd. while her daughter was inside the store. He got into the driver’s seat and ordered her out, then took off with the car and the victims’ belongings inside. It happened in broad daylight.
