A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging eight individuals, including the President, Vice-President and Chief Finance and Strategy Officer at a company that provided medical billing and coding services on government contracts and an employee at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), with conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud and related charges, in connection with a scheme to defraud WRNMMC and the Defense Health Agency (DHA). The indictment was returned on March 17, 2022, and unsealed today upon the arrests of three defendants. Charged in the indictment are:

(SILVER SPRING, MD) – Troopers arrested and charged a Montgomery County man early Thursday morning after a Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation developed evidence supporting charges of possession of child pornography.
Today in the District Court for Montgomery County, MD, defendant DeMarco Rayford, 25, of Montgomery Village, was ordered held without bond. He is accused of stabbing and killing Deante Foreman. A preliminary hearing is set for April 15th at 8:30 a.m.
A 21-year-old male was killed following an altercation outside of his residence on Reprise Drive in Rockville. On Monday, March 21, at approximately 9 p.m., Montgomery County Police 6th District officers responded to the 10100 block of Reprise Drive for the report of a shooting that just occurred.
A Montgomery County man was killed in a Northwest D.C. Stabbing early Monday morning. The Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim as 42 year-old Kenneth Thomas Jr., of Silver Spring, MD.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services announced an arson arrest hours after responding to a call for a fire on the 11400 block of Monterrey Dr. Off of Veirs Mill Rd in Wheaton.
At approximately 2pm on Tuesday, March 15th, MCFRS units responded to a call for a fire in a basement bedroom of a single family home. The fire was quickly put out and there were no injuries, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.
Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating suspects sought in a fatal hit and run resulting that occurred on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the intersection of 18th Street and Florida Avenue, Northwest.
The decedent has been identified as 33 year-old Rakesh Patel, of Silver Spring, MD. Dr. Patel was a Medical Intensive Care Unit fellow at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
Judge David Lease has sentenced defendant, Denzel Kasaka, 23 of Silver Spring, to 40 years suspend all but 30 for the death of Jose Augusto Ruiz, 20. He also faces five years of supervised probation upon release.
The sentence was handed down late yesterday. In October, a jury convicted Kasaka of second-degree murder.

Greenbelt, Maryland – A federal grand jury has indicted Willie Lamont Hicks, age 50, of Rockville, Maryland, and Mary Ann Mendoza, age 49, of Kensington, Maryland, on federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire and wire fraud. The indictment was returned on December 22, 2021 and unsealed upon the defendants’ arrests.
