The future is looking clearer for Metrobus, as Metro and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announce the start of the 45-day minimum warning period for the Clear Lanes program. The goal is to improve bus speeds and reliability. Parked cars and vehicles illegally using dedicated bus lanes and bus stop zones slow buses down and impedes customer safety.
Under the program, cameras mounted on Metrobuses will capture video and photos of vehicles illegally operating, parking, standing, or stopping in dedicated bus lanes and bus zones. All enforcement will be handled by DDOT. Metro will not have any role in ticketing and enforcement.
When the sale of the Commanders was finalized last week to a group led by Montgomery County native Josh Harris, we let you know that the group will have some decisions to make regarding the future of the franchise, including a possible “complete rebranding of the team.” According to a tweet by Bleacher Report, ESPN senior writer Don Van Natta Jr. stated on the Rich Eisen Show that “There’s a ‘pretty good chance’ the new ownership of the Washington Commanders will change the franchise name and have a ‘complete re-branding’ of the team.”

Raising Cane’s started its expansion into the D.C. metropolitan region when its first area restaurant opened last December in Sterling, VA (45545 Dulles Eastern Plaza). The first Maryland location opened in Towson in January 2023 and both stores featured lines out the door for months on several days of the week. A Waldorf Location opened in May and a Westminster location opened last week to make three for the state.
We previously reported that Raising Cane’s aims to open 14 stores in the next year, stretching from suburban Baltimore to the Richmond area, and now the chain has announced 15+ locations for Maryland alone. Currently, only three of the 15+ have been announced with a Gambrills location, at 1070 Maryland Route 3 North, opening in September. A Columbia restaurant, at 9071 Snowden River Parkway (Howard County) is coming this fall, and a Forestville restaurant, at 3270 Donnell Drive (Prince George’s County) is also set to open this fall. None of the other Maryland locations have been announced yet, and we are awaiting word on if Montgomery County will be included in the openings.

NFL clubs today unanimously approved the sale of the Washington Commanders to Josh Harris and his limited partners at a special league meeting in Minneapolis. Statement from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell:
“Congratulations to Josh Harris and his impressive group of partners. Josh will be a great addition to the NFL. He has a remarkable record in business, sports, and in his communities. The diverse group that Josh has put together is outstanding for its business acumen and strong Washington ties and we welcome them to the NFL as well. I met Josh several years ago, prior to his acquisition of an interest in the Steelers and have been fortunate to get to know him better over the past few months. I know he has a commitment to winning on the field, but also to running an organization that everyone will be proud of — and to making positive contributions.”
In May it was announced that the Washington Commanders and a partnership led by MoCo native Josh Harris (Chevy Chase) have entered into a purchase and sale agreement. Earlier this week, the NFL finance committee voted unofficially to recommend approval of the deal to buy the Commanders with various sources saying the NFL has reached an agreement with Daniel Snyder to resolve any remaining legal issues. Today, the approval is expected to become official at the NFL owners’ meeting in Minneapolis.
The sale to the group led by Philadelphia 76ers co-owner and Chevy Chase native Josh Harris, Potomac billionaire Mitchell Rales, and NBA legend Magic Johnson for just over $6 billion is expected to close on Friday. Snyder purchased what was then the Washington Redskins for $800 million in 1999 after the death of previous owner Jack Kent Cooke.
