The Washington Commanders welcomed more than three dozen NFL Draft prospects on Wednesday, many with strong ties to the DMV, giving local talent a chance to showcase their abilities in front of the hometown organization.

The group featured several Maryland standouts, including defensive back Vincent Nwachi, a Wheaton High School graduate who went on to play at Maine, Mitchell Melton, a Silver Spring native who attended Good Counsel in Olney before continuing his career at UVA, and Octavian Smith, a Burtonsville native and graduate of Paint Branch High School who went on to star at the University of Maryland.


WSSC Water is temporarily reducing the amount of fluoride added to drinking water for its 1.9 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, citing nationwide supply chain disruptions tied in part to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Students across Montgomery County and the Washington, D.C. area are earning national recognition in C-SPAN’s 2026 StudentCam documentary competition, bringing home multiple awards as part of a nationwide program tied to the 250th anniversary of the United States.

A Freeze Warning is in effect across parts of Maryland, including all of Montgomery County, from midnight tonight through 9am Wednesday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 27°. Another round of freezing temperatures is possible late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Montgomery County’s Kiki Rice has reached the top of the college basketball world. Rice helped lead UCLA to a dominant 79-51 win over fellow No. 1 seed South Carolina in the national championship, finishing with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in the title-clinching victory.
