A crane got hooked on live power line wires this morning on Clifton Rd in Colesville, causing the vehicle to catch on fire, according to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Pete Piringer. Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution and there are currently power outages in the area. The initial call to dispatch came in around 9am and there were no injuries reported.

Clifton Road is currently closed between Venetian Road and Cannon Road for Fire Rescue activity, according to Montgomery County Police. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and to expect significant delays.

WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), is hosting several opportunities for the community to get involved with the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan. These include efforts to support the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Placemaking Festival as well as the plan’s Visioning Phase, starting on June 27 and taking place through the summer.


Monroe is approximately 5-feet,6-inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. She has curly hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing light blue denim jeans, a green long-sleeve flannel shirt and black crocs.  She may be carrying a tan bag with a black label of “MK” on it.  Police and family are concerned for her welfare.

Last November we let you know that it was likely Chipotle would be taking over the Little Caesers location in Briggs Chaney Marketplace. That move has now been confirmed, but a projected opening date is not currently available.

Little Caesars closed the Briggs Chaney Marketplace location at the beginning of the summer in 2021 and many local residents have wondered what would be taking its place. We are told the location could possibly be a walk-up/drive-thru only Chipotle, which isn’t common in the area.


On December 20, 2021, after a nine-day trial and nine hours of deliberations in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD before Judge David Lease, a jury found defendant Gregory Jones, 28, of Martinsburg, WV, guilty of first-degree murder for the deaths of Ashley Dickinson and Joshua Frazier in Burtonsville, MD. According to the State’s Attorney office, Judge David Lease sentenced Jones to two life terms in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 30 years for what police described as an execution-style double murder.  

On February 15, 2018, the bodies of Joshua Frazier and Ashley Dickinson, both Virginia residents, were discovered in Ms. Dickinson’s running 2013 Audi SUV at a home on Aldora Circle in the Briggs Chaney area of Burtonsville, Montgomery County, Maryland. Both had been shot once in the back of the head from the back seat of the vehicle. Police located two 9mm shell casings in the car, as well as a projectile on a sidewalk near the vehicle.

WHEATON, MD The Montgomery County Planning Department announced the launch of the Visioning Phase of the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan. The community is invited to attend virtual and in-person events to share ideas for the future of the Fairland and Briggs Chaney plan area. This phase will kick off with a virtual Visioning Workshop on June 27.


White Oak Day will take place on Saturday, June 4th to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the White Oak Community Recreation Center at 1700 April Lane. The event will take place from noon until 4pm.

Per the event flyer: “The White Oak Community Rec center will open its doors to the community. Great for all ages and families. Enjoy music, vendors, food, and fun activities.” Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services are on the scene of a fire in a detached garage in the 13300blk of Old Columbia Pk. in the Burtonsville area, according to MCFRS Battalion Chief Steve Mann.  The fire has been knocked down and investigators are in route. There were no injuries reported. Old Columbia Pk. is closed in the area of Cherry Hill and Fairland. Drivers are being advised to seek alternate routes and to expect significant delays. MCFRS responded to the call around 3:30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

MCFRS responded to a porch fire on Monday evening around 7pm the 7300blk Warfield Rd. near Woodfield Rd in Laytonsville a. The fire, which was described as a “cooking mishap,” was quickly extinguished with minimal extension. There were no injuries reported and damage is estimated to be around $40,000 ($30k Structure/$10k Contents) according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS’ Pete Piringer. Photos of both incidents below:


Montgomery Planning and the Better Block Foundation invite community members to collaborate to reimagine the Briggs Chaney Park and Ride area through a placemaking festival on October 21 and 22

WHEATON, MD –The Montgomery County Planning Departmentand the Dallas-based nonprofit Better Block Foundation invite residents and business owners to collaborate on a special placemaking initiative to demonstrate the goals of the ongoing Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan. A virtual kickoff meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 6 p.m. via Microsoft Teams to launch the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Placemaking Festival effort. The placemaking festival will culminate with a free, community-led event scheduled for October 21 and October 22. RSVPs are required to attend the kickoff meeting. Please make any requests for accessibility or translation accommodations for the meeting by May 23.


Tesla has plans for a new 26,000 SF service center on Broadbirch Dr. In the White Oak area, according to a report by BizJournals.

Per the report, “the new location would go in at 2320 Broadbirch Drive east of Columbia Pike, immediately south of the Home Depot and just north of the Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center, according to plans obtained from Construction Journal. The single-story office building was formerly occupied by State Farm Insurance.
