Shooting at Shell Gas Station Thursday Afternoon Now Confirmed as Homicide

4:11pm Update per MCPD: MCPD PIO is en route to a confirmed homicide in the 1100 block of New Hampshire Ave.

Montgomery County Police is investigating a shooting at the Shell gas station in the 11100 block of New Hampshire Ave. According to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, the shooting occurred at approximately 3PM on Thursday at the White Oak Shell/Dash In gas station/convenience store on the corner of New Hampshire Avenue and Lockwood Drive in White Oak, MD (Montgomery County). Two Separate Robberies of Montgomery County Fast Food Restaurants Occurred on Thursday Night

Two fast-food establishments in Montgomery County were robbed on Thursday night, according to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh.

The first occurred at approximately 7:20pm at the KFC/Taco Bell on Blair Road, just east of Georgia Avenue, in Silver Spring. A male armed with a handgun obtained an unknown s sum of cash. The second robbery occurred at Popeyes on Lockwood Drive, just off of Columbia Pike and New Hampshire Ave in White Oak. An unknown sum of cash was obtained at gun point.

White Oak Medical Center Awarded First Healthcare LEED Gold Certification in Maryland

Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center has been awarded the Healthcare LEED GOLD certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the design, construction and operations of its more than 500,000 thousand-square-foot hospital and 48-acre campus. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the USGBC, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence.

Per the press release: LEED-certified buildings and campuses are helping to make the world more sustainable through practices that improve environmental and human health. White Oak Medical Center is the first hospital campus in Maryland to receive this prestigious Healthcare LEED Gold certification and recognition. White Oak Medical Center’s campus received the certification based on a number of design and construction features positively impacting the environment, community and the hospital. Police Pursuit After Armed Robbery Ends in Multiple Vehicle Collision

A police pursuit ended on Monday after a Montgomery County Police vehicle collided with a suspect’s vehicle that had just crashed into a Metrobus on Georgia Ave near Downtown Silver Spring. Northbound Georgia Ave is closed at Burlington Avenue and 13th Street as a result of the collision. According to MCPD, “At approximately 2:41 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 9300 block of Piney Branch Rd. for an armed robbery. Officers located the suspects at the White Oak Shopping Center. The suspects drove off and officers pursued the suspect vehicle, until it crashed into the rear end of a Metro bus. A Montgomery County Police cruiser subsequently crashed into the rear of the suspect vehicle.

Silver Spring Man Indicted on Felony Hit and Run Charges

On Thursday, May 5, 2022, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Davee Mannah Kromah was driving north on Columbia Pike in a dark gray 2014 Ford Fusion when he ran a red light and struck an adult male, who was in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Prelude Drive.

Responding officers were able to identify the make and model of the suspect vehicle and conducted a search of the surrounding area. The damaged Ford Fusion was found on Heather Hollow Circle, close to Kromah’s home and officers identified him as the possible driver. Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives interviewed Kromah, and during the investigation, discovered items of evidentiary value connecting him to the hit and run.

Suspect Now Identified (and Still Wanted) in Attempted Purse Snatching That Was Caught on Video in March

A suspect has been identified in an attempted robbery of another person that occurred at the Chick-fil-A in the 12000 block of Tech Road. The suspect, who was caught on video, has been identified as Jamara Hampton. Original press release from MCPD and photos of the suspect, who is wanted, can be seen below:

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section, are investigating an attempted robbery of a person that occurred at the Chick-fil-A in the 12000 block of Tech Road. On Saturday, March 26, 2022, at approximately 8 a.m., 3rd District Officers responded to the location for the report of a robbery that just occurred. The investigation determined that the suspect entered the Chick-fil-A and snatched the victim’s purse inside the restaurant.

National Dog Day: Meet Peru, Adventist White Oak’s Facility Dog

Peru is a golden retriever trained by Canine Companions, an organization that places service dogs with people who have disabilities, to support her handler, rehabilitation psychologist Heather Tropiano, Psy.D. Construction to Begin Soon at White Oak Town Center

Developers Bernstein Management and Finmarc Management have pulled the first permits that will allow for construction to begin on the upcoming White Oak Town Center (12345 Columbia Pike), according to a report from Maryland Newsletters. In February, BizJournals reported that “Amazon has reached a deal to open a new supermarket at a long-planned Silver Spring redevelopment fewer than three miles from the Food and Drug Administration’s campus”, referring to White Oak Town Center. “The team behind the White Oak Town Center has swapped a 41,000-square-foot Amazon-branded market, likely an Amazon Fresh, in for what had been a roughly 16,000-square-foot Trader Joe’s.” While a date for construction to start has not been set, there isn’t anything else currently standing in the way.

Last year we shared preliminary plans for the upcoming White Oak Town Center that included updated renderings (available below). In the renderings there was a noticeable change in the grocery store that was depicted. In earlier drawings, the grocery store designs resembled Trader Joe’s, but the updated renderings resembled Amazon Fresh. White Oak Town Center will be located at 12345 Columbia Pike, in the northeast quadrant of the intersection of Prosperity Drive and Industrial Parkway. Below you’ll see some bullet points about what to expect, along with the renderings from our July update:

MoCo’s Adventist HealthCare Hospitals (Shady Grove and White Oak) Earns National Recognition for Commitment to Quality Heart Attack Care

Adventist HealthCare’s hospitals in Montgomery County have received national awards for providing rapid, research-based and high-quality care to heart attack patients. Shady Grove Medical Center and White Oak Medical Center have both earned American Heart Association awards. Shady Grove has received the Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center Gold Plus award and White Oak Medical Center has received the Mission: Lifeline STEMI & NSTEMI Gold awards. The hospitals previously earned national recognition for providing high-quality stroke care.

Per the press release: Each year, more than 280,000 people nationwide experience a STEMI heart attack, caused by a complete blockage in a coronary artery. Known as the deadliest type of heart attack, the STEMI must be treated in an efficient, timely manner. The NSTEMI is experienced by over 546,000 people a year and is caused by a partial blockage of blood flow to the heart. Both types of heart attacks require medical staff to work as quickly as possible to restore blood flow, either mechanically or by providing medication.
