Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School teacher Joseph Bostic, Jr., was named the 2021-2022 MCPS Teacher of the Year during a virtual celebration on April 28. Bostic will now go on to compete for Maryland Teacher of the Year.

Statement From Montgomery County Board of Education and MCPS on Derek Chauvin’s Conviction
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of George Floyd. This has been a difficult and painful year. The pain from fighting a deadly virus has been exacerbated and heightened by the all too frequent public killings of African Americans by law enforcement officers. This pain has focused our nation on the longstanding historical injustices that have plagued our nation since its founding. We have struggled to come together as one united community. While the verdict brings this trial to a close, the conversation about structural racism and inequity must continue in our homes, communities and schools. MCPS has provided staff with resources to support our students with this conversation. It is with hope that we can now begin to heal. We will take the lessons from this experience and work together to build a better and more equitable world.”
County Council Approves Amended Board of Health Regulation on Graduation Ceremonies
This morning the Montgomery County Council unanimously approved a Fourth Amended Board of Health Regulation to prevent the spread of COVID19 in the county. The amendment, which is listed below, focuses on guidelines for school graduations.
MCPS to Offer Virtual Only Option Next Year
Montgomery County Public Schools will offer a full-time virtual option next year for students and families that have health and safety concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Detectives Investigating Homicide in Boyds
Detectives are investigating the April 13th homicide of Javon Jamal Gordon (23) of Boyds, MD. Gordon was shot near his home on Ethel Rose Way in Boyds.
The Annual MCPS Art Show Is Virtual This Year
In years past, MCPS has celebrated and showcased student artwork by hosting displays at Lakeforest Mall and most recently Westfield Montgomery. This year, the MCPS art show is entirely virtual. You’ll find art from elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, special programs, and even a page showcasing work created by art educators around the county.
