MCPS Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight has sent a letter to MCPS employees informing them of negotiations underway to restore Covid-19 leave for this school year. The Covid-19 leave benefit was not extended after last school year. Per the message, an announcement is expected to be made soon. The full message can be seen below.

“Dear MCPS Colleagues,


The governor established the Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today (BOOST) program in 2016 to provide scholarships for low-income students from areas with under-performing schools to attend non-public schools. Through BOOST, the state has provided more than $50 million to fund scholarships for low-income students.

Last year, the governor announced two rounds of Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools (EANS) funding to provide financial assistance to support safely reopening schools and helping students recover from learning loss associated with the pandemic. With the leftover funding from that program, the governor is establishing a $1.6 million grant program that will cover a range of eligible expenses, including:


Cynthia Addai-Robinson stars as Queen Regent Tar-Míriel in Amazon Prime’s highly anticipated The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. She was born on January 12, 1980, in London; her mother is from Ghana and her father was a U.S. citizen. She moved to the U.S. when she was 4 and was raised by her mother in Silver Spring, where she graduated from Blair High School in 1998.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiered last week with its first two episodes. The rest of the eight-episode first season is running until October 14. The show’s time period is before the events of The Hobbit and the original The Lord of the Rings.


This richly illustrated talk, in partnership with Bethesda Historical Society, will detail the ways that Bethesda schools set the pace for education in Montgomery County Public Schools. The discussion traces the history of County public schools to the early 1900s.

There is no charge to view the presentation. Advance registration is not required.


The Woodward Relays, an invitational cross-country relay race that consists of a 6 mile run with the baton passed from teammate to teammate every mile, took place on the campus of Georgetown Prep. For the first time in 50 years, runners from Magruder High School won their respective race (Senior Josh Lopez and Sophomore Colin Abrams are pictured). The Magruder duo finished nearly a minute before the second place team.
