Free COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Paint Branch High School for MCPS Students
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will be holding a free vaccination clinic today for MCPS students 12 and older from 12-7pm at Paint Branch High School (14121 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville)
Maryland Board of Education Raises Health Credit Requirement From .5 to Full Credit, Makes Change to World Language Requirement
The Maryland Board of Education voted to raise the health credit requirement from half of a credit to a full credit.

26 Northwood High School Students Earn Associates Degrees from Montgomery College Prior to High School Graduation
The Montgomery College Middle College program at Northwood High School began in 2014. In 2018, there were five graduates who earned their Associates Degrees in General Studies with a STEM core. Since then the program has grown to 12 graduates in 2019, 14 in 2020, and 26 graduates this year.
Stephanie Blake, Northwest High School Girl’s Volleyball Coach Who Won Four Consecutive State Championships, Steps Down
Stephanie Blake and her hard working girl’s volleyball teams at Northwest High School won four consecutive state championships from 2015-2018. Yesterday, one of the best coaches in the county announced she’ll be stepping down to focus on raising her three daughters.
Rahil Verma, a student from Winston Churchill High School in Montgomery County, Maryland, has been selected for the prestigious Student Enhancement in Earth and Space Science (SEES) summer internship hosted by The University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Space Research. This nationally competitive program sponsored by NASA’s Texas Space Grant Consortium selects students to conduct authentic research using NASA data. Investigations are being conducted as part of Mosquito Mappers, a SEES team co-sponsored by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) under the NASA Earth Science Education Collaborative project.
Mosquito Mappers receive training from NASA scientists, led by GLOBE Observer scientist Dr. Russanne Low, IGES, on safety procedures, mosquito ecology and habitat, larva identification, land cover classification and satellite data analysis. Each intern devotes 10-15 hours a week in June and July participating in weekly data explorations, developing and implementing a research design, and collaborating with NASA subject matter experts.
Kayla DiCello, a Junior at Northwest High School, Places Third in GK U.S. Classic
Kayla DiCello of Boyds, Md./Hill’s Gymnastics, finished third in the all-around at the 2021 GK U.S. Classic. She also topped the field on uneven bars with a 14.600.
