The Magruder Girls Varsity volleyball team won the 3A state championship with a 25-0 record. The team consistently played at an extremely high level, winning 69 sets and losing only 5. Along the way the team set several school records for volleyball including: most wins, highest win percentage for sets won/lost, kills in a season, attack percentage and passing percentage.
The Montgomery County Board of Education is holding the Districtwide Boundary Analysis-Phase One Public Hearing this evening, Monday, November 18, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.

On Friday, October 25th, MCPS superintendent Jack Smith released his Recommended FY 2021 Capital Budget and the FY 2021-2026 Capital Improvements Program.

Each week Takoma Park Middle School teacher, Maura Moore, highlights one student in each of her classes that has done something noteworthy (kind to a classmate, perseverant with an academic struggle, exemplary work, etc.)
Ridgeview Middle School in Gaithersburg has added a lactation room for teachers.
As far as we know, it’s the first of its kind in MCPS school.
MCPS Superintendent Jack Smith has released his recommendation following the boundary study for some of MoCo’s upcounty high schools.
The study and recommendation affect Clarksburg, Northwest, and Seneca Valley High School.
The move also brings MCPS into alignment with other regional school systems, including Frederick, Howard and Prince George’s counties, as well as Fairfax County, all of which require 60 college credits for substitute teacher eligibility.
MCPS received feedback from partners, including Montgomery College, the Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA), school-based staff, teachers, principals and employee associations.
The school year has come to an end, but we’re sure the staff at Cloverly Elementary School in Silver Spring will remain busy this summer.
The elementary school staff welcomed 8 new babies in just six months!
Isaac Cudjoe graduates from Seneca Valley in 2012. He has a masters in Conflict Resolution and Coexistence from Brandeis University.
Together these two young men have started Brothers With Books. Kevin and Isaac noticed that students aren’t reading as much as they should, so they wanted to make sure that students had adequate access to books.
Most recently, a tweet from a local journalist sparked outrage in the Watkins Mill and Northwood high school communities.
The news reporter posted about a Northwood High School student who was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute on campus. But while reporting on this, the reporter also included other Montgomery County Schools and their “serious drug” incident statistics during the 2017-2018 school year.
