Did you know that the first ice cream on the continent was served in Maryland in 1744 when Governor Thomas Bladen served up the sweet, creamy treat? The flavor was strawberry. The first commercial sales of ice cream were also in Maryland when a Baltimore milkman by the name of Jacob Fussell began the commercial selling of ice cream in the state back in 1851 (courtesy of Visit Maryland).

For the first time, Metro is inviting transit lovers across the region to come together for a family-friendly celebration. Metro Fest is a community event open to the public at no cost. The event will include arts and crafts, games, entertainment, snacks, water, and Metro-branded giveaways.

Joan Jett, the woman many refer to as the Queen of Rock & Roll, spent almost a decade of her life growing up in Randolph Hills and attended Wheaton High School (she left the area before graduating). She will be returning to Maryland for the Orioles game against the Texas Rangers on June 28th as the “guest splasher” in the team’s “Splash Zone” in left field, where fans are sprayed with a hose in celebration after big plays
