The City of Gaithersburg offers two Farmers Markets, providing residents with locally grown produce throughout the year. The variety of fruits & vegetables changes weekly as different crops reach maturity. Per the City of Gaithersburg:
The Main Street Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s located in the Main Street Park & Pavilion just one block off of Kentlands Boulevard. You’ll find summer fruit & veggies, distilled spirits, eggs, baked sweets, and ready-made meals.
Alex Timbers, a three-time Tony Award-nominated writer and director and the recipient of Golden Globe, Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Awards, will be presenting at the Jim Henson Pavilion at this year’s Gaithersburg Book Festival. Timbers’ many Broadway credits include “Moulin Rouge!,” “Beetlejuice,” David Byrne’s “American Utopia,” Nick Kroll and John Mulaney’s “Oh Hello on Broadway,” “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” and Disney’s “Peter and the Starcatcher.” His latest work is the children’s book, “Broadway Bird.” Alex lives in Times Square with his partner Rebekah and three mischievous parakeets.
The Gaithersburg Book Festival is an annual all-day celebration of books, writers and literary excellence. One of the premier literary events in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the 2022 Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm (506 S. Frederick Ave.) in Gaithersburg, Md.

Danny Rouhier’s Charles Barkley impersonation earned him nationwide fame when he was featured on TNT’s Inside the NBA with Barkley himself (seen below). Later this month, on May 20th, you’ll be able to see his stand-up comedy act live at the Kentlands mansion in Gaithersburg.
Rouhier is currently the co-host of 106.7 The Fan’s afternoon drive show ‘Grant and Danny’ with Grant Paulson. He was a college baseball player at nearby George Washington University and was recently inducted into the school’s athletics Hall of Fame. Loyalty & patriotism will be on full display as the City joins the nation in honoring all who have given their lives in military service at its Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 30, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Christman Park. The public is invited to join the Mayor & City Council, Junior Mayor, City staff & honored guests in a tribute to those of all generations who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Joining the May 30 observance will be guest speaker Dr. Richard W. Thomas, MD, DDS, FACS (Major General – Retired). Dr. Thomas retired as a Major General from the United States Army with more than 26 years of service. During his career he commanded at multiple levels within the Army, including serving as the Director of Healthcare Operations & the Chief Medical Officer for the Defense Health Agency; Commanding General of the Western Regional Medical Command; Surgeon General, USFORCES-Afghanistan; Chief, U.S. Army Medical Corps; and numerous other staff & leadership positions. Dr. Thomas has also served multiple combat tours supporting operations in Iraq, Afghanistan & Panama.
The 2022 Takoma Trukgarten Festival will take place on Saturday, June 4th, from 12noon-5:00pm, according to Main Street Takoma. This one-day beer festival features local breweries pouring craft beers and cider: Silver Branch Brewing Co., Smoketown Brewing, Manor Hill Brewing, Streetcar 82, Peabody Heights Brewing Co, Union Brewing, Anxo Cider (check back for more).

The holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, when the Union army arrived in Texas bearing federal orders proclaiming the end of slavery. In July 2020, the Mayor and Council approved a resolution making Rockville the first municipality in Maryland to recognize Juneteenth as a paid city holiday.
In 2021, the Montgomery County Council issued the following statement regarding Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday:
Montgomery Parks will celebrate the reopening of Edith Throckmorton Neighborhood Park(opens in a new tab) on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. The rain date is May 14, 2022, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The celebration of the park renovation is free and open to the public and will include a brief speaking program, ribbon-cutting ceremony, and light refreshments. The park is located at 3925 Hampden Street, Kensington, MD 20895.
“The renovation of this park is remarkable. By modifying the space and adding new amenities, this park has been transformed from what was mostly just a playground to a place for people to gather with friends and neighbors, for kids to play, and for all to appreciate the natural setting of the Rock Creek stream valley,” said Mike Riley, director of Montgomery Parks. Rocktobierfest is currently scheduled to take place at RedGate Park at 14500 Avery Road in Rockville on Saturday, October 1st from 11am-5pm.. It makes for the second major City of Rockville event to leave Rockville Town Square this year, as Taste of Rockville/Hometown Holidays will also be taking place at RedGate Park for the first time this year.
Rocktobierfest features three stages of entertainment, including German, rock and children’s music. Guests can also enjoy beverages for sale by local breweries and participants, food, and an artisan shopping area. This annual event attracts usually attracts more than 8,000 people. Last year’s Rocktobierfest was scheduled to take place in Rockville Town Square on October 2nd, but was cancelled on September 17th due to Covid concerns.
