Monster Bash returns to Takoma Park on Saturday, October 29. The event begins at 1pm in the Takoma Park Middle School Parking Lot (7611 Piney Branch Rd) with a “Trunk or Treat” and magic show. The City of Takoma Park Recreation Department will host our traditional Monster Bash on Saturday, October 29!


Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, has an engaging lineup of special events and programs in November, including Maryland Emancipation Day, Drag Queen Story Hour, free Veteran’s Day skates and the opening of the annual winter favorite, Garden of Lights, at Brookside Gardens.

This Saturday, October 29, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Kensington are once again hosting their annual Halloween Movie Night. “Hotel Transylvania” will be shown at dusk in St. Paul Park on the big screen. Costumes are encouraged for all attendees.

The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Kensington will have refreshments available for purchase in the Park, including pizza, popcorn, and candy.


“Harry Potter- A Forbidden Experience”, a nighttime woodland trail experience filled with magical creatures and wizarding wonders from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, is coming later this month, October 29th, to Leesburg, VA (Morven Park, 41580 Sunday Morning Lane). The walking trail takes approximately 45-70 minutes, while the experience itself takes about 60-90 minutes for all ages, with tickets ranging from $25-$75 depending on age and session date/time.

“Explore after dark the sounds, lights, and special effects that bring the magic of the Wizarding World to life. Guests will also be able to enjoy a wide range of delicious food and drinks at the village! Set in a beautiful woodland, this nighttime trail experience has been created by award-winning theatrical designers and experiential creators.”


A STEAM Festival Showcase will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Northwood High School (919 University Blvd., West). MCPS and educational partners will showcase opportunities for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) with hands-on activities and demonstrations. This event is free and open to all MCPS families and students of all ages.

The keynote speaker is Tina C. Williams-Koroma, the founder and CEO of TCecure, a cybersecurity and intelligence company providing security architecture, engineering, assessment, training, and consulting services to businesses. She is also the founder of CyDeploy, a technology company that helps organizations confidently make security changes to their systems and better protect its assets. Williams-Koroma is a Maryland attorney who also holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master’s in management. She will speak at 11 a.m.


The popular Takoma Park Street Festival returns for its 41st year of music, vendors, food and fun in Takoma Park. This year’s festival takes place on Sunday, October 23rd, 2022 from 10:00 am-5:00 pm on Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park, MD to Carroll Street, NW in Takoma, DC. Festival goers will enjoy the day exploring over 150 vendors booths, live music from 18 local bands, food trucks and more. Get the kids into their costumes then head to Parks Spooktacular(opens in a new tab) at South Germantown Recreational Park Adventure Playground on Sunday, October 23, 10 am to 1 pm, for free Halloween activities and entertainment.


The 3rd annual Ch/Art Art Walk 2022, will be held on Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 23 from 12-5pm (there is no rain date). The event is free and open to the public. “Come and discover the 67 artists showing their work in 22 home studios in and around Chevy MD and DC. Stroll, bike or drive around to see the art, sip some wine and met your friends at the most talked about event in the area!”

This talented group will offer work in a wide range of media including abstract and representational painting, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, ceramic art, photography, fabric art, mixed media and video. A Fall Festival & Pumpkin Derby will take place on Saturday, October 22nd from 11am-2pm at the Ross Boddy Community Center in Sandy Spring (Ross Body Neighborhood Recreation Center, 18529 Brooke Road, Sandy Spring, MD).

This event, brought to you by Montgomery County Recreation, will feature crafts, games, snacks, and a pumpkin derby race! The 40th annual Potomac Day parade and celebration will begin with the parade at 10:30am in Potomac Village. The following roadways will be affected from approximately 8am-5pm, per Montgomery County:

We are told there will be than 30 entrants in the parade, including horses from the Potomac Bridle and Hiking Trails Association and the Park Police. After the parade, the Children’s Fair with rides and games will be underway, along with the Business Fair with 68 Business fair participants. Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, invites the public to the October 2022 session of its Parks Speaker Series on the topic of Navigating Social Issues Impacting Parks. The free session will take place online on October 26, 2022, from 1 – 2 p.m.

In this session, Denver Park Rangers Jodie Marozas and Alec Moore will discuss how the Denver Parks and Recreation Department has successfully navigated some of the social issues facing parks systems, such as alcohol use in parks and empathetic approaches to enforcement to help people in the parks who are experiencing homelessness. The speakers will share best practices on this topic and offer techniques and tools to apply these practices.
