3rd Annual Ch/Art Art Walk to Take Place in Chevy Chase on October 22-23

The 3rd annual Ch/Art Art Walk 2022, will be held on Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 23 from 12-5pm (there is no rain date). The event is free and open to the public. “Come and discover the 67 artists showing their work in 22 home studios in and around Chevy MD and DC. Stroll, bike or drive around to see the art, sip some wine and met your friends at the most talked about event in the area!”

This talented group will offer work in a wide range of media including abstract and representational painting, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, ceramic art, photography, fabric art, mixed media and video. Brochures with the artists’ names and media and a map of the locations are available at local business’s or follow the QR code below to get the map too. Fall Festival and Pumpkin Derby To Take Place in Sandy Spring on Saturday, October 22

A Fall Festival & Pumpkin Derby will take place on Saturday, October 22nd from 11am-2pm at the Ross Boddy Community Center in Sandy Spring (Ross Body Neighborhood Recreation Center, 18529 Brooke Road, Sandy Spring, MD).

This event, brought to you by Montgomery County Recreation, will feature crafts, games, snacks, and a pumpkin derby race! The registration fee for the derby is $20 and includes materials and instructions (pumpkin not included). Contact Ross Boddy CRC for Pumpkin Derby registration and rules at 240-777-8050.

40th Annual Potomac Day Parade and Celebration Will Take Place October 22

The 40th annual Potomac Day parade and celebration will begin with the parade at 10:30am in Potomac Village. The following roadways will be affected from approximately 8am-5pm, per Montgomery County:

We are told there will be than 30 entrants in the parade, including horses from the Potomac Bridle and Hiking Trails Association and the Park Police. After the parade, the Children’s Fair with rides and games will be underway, along with the Business Fair with 68 Business fair participants. Montgomery Parks Virtual Speaker Series Features Denver Parks and Recreation on the Topic of Navigating Social Issues Impacting Parks

Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, invites the public to the October 2022 session of its Parks Speaker Series on the topic of Navigating Social Issues Impacting Parks. The free session will take place online on October 26, 2022, from 1 – 2 p.m.

In this session, Denver Park Rangers Jodie Marozas and Alec Moore will discuss how the Denver Parks and Recreation Department has successfully navigated some of the social issues facing parks systems, such as alcohol use in parks and empathetic approaches to enforcement to help people in the parks who are experiencing homelessness. The speakers will share best practices on this topic and offer techniques and tools to apply these practices.

HalloWheaton to Take Place on Sunday, October 30

The 2nd annual HalloWheaton event will take place between 12pm-4pm on Sunday, October 30th at Marian Fryer Town Plaza (2424 Reedie Drive) in Wheaton. Activities include s’mores roasting, mask and pumpkin painting, a beer garden for adults, craft projects, a costume contest, lawn games, hot chocolate, and more. This is a free event.

‘Light the Night’ Festival and Walk Will Begin Saturday Evening (October 15th)

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night will take place on Saturday, October 15th at Rockville Town Center with festival activities beginning at 5pm (full schedule and road closures available below). There will also be a virtual event experience provided for any participants who would prefer to not join us in-person, held on November 15, Details to come in emails to all registered participants in early November.

F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival Returns as In-Person Event to Honor Author Richard Powers on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Rockville

The 26th annual F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival, one of the premiere literary festivals in the nation, will return as in-person event on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Rockville by presenting its annual Award for Achievement in American Literature to acclaimed author Richard Powers. The festival will be held on at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Rockville with this year’s theme of “Stories and the More-Than-Human.”

The festival will feature a keynote talk by Alice McDermott and morning and afternoon writing workshops. There will be events leading up to the featured day throughout the preceding week. Montgomery Parks Hosts Community Garden Harvest Parties to Donate Fresh Produce to People Experiencing Food Insecurity

Montgomery Parks is hosting a harvest party on Sunday, October 16, at 11 a.m. at Fenton Street Urban Park. Montgomery Parks partner HarvestShare will collect and donate freshly grown produce from the Fenton Street Urban Park community garden to local food assistance providers.

This year, gardeners at Montgomery Parks community gardens have donated over 2,900 pounds of fresh food, surpassing last year’s total by about 400 pounds. Gardeners at Fenton Street Urban Park community garden have donated more than 250 pounds of produce.

The DMV Auto Show is Coming to Clarksburg

The inaugural DMV Auto Show will take place at the Clarksburg Premium Outlets (22705 Clarksburg Rd.) on Saturday, October 22 from 1pm until 6pm.

Per the event: “This is a different take on the car shows you are used to with the goal to be completely inclusive to the whole car community. We want to bring a premium experience to those who have spent a lot time and money on this passion and to appreciate the vast variety of cars our community has to offer. We will have over 20 classes with premium trophies, guest judges, prizes, giveaways, vendors, food & drinks and family friendly entertainment! ALL SPECTATORS ARE FREE!”

Bethesda Central Farm Market Returns to Bethesda Elementary School

Bethesda Central Farm Market will return to Bethesda Elementary School (7600 Arlington Rd) on Sunday, October 16th. The market was operating out of the Bethesda Farm Women’s Market since June due to the elementary school having its roof replaced. The work on the roof took a bit longer than expected, but it is now complete and the market will be returning.

Central Farm Markets was founded in 2008 by Debra Moser and Mitch Berliner. Bethesda Central Farm Market was the first market, which began in a small parking lot with 17 vendors. Today Central Farm Markets has four farm markets in Maryland, DC and Virginia.
