Kentlands Baby Bar has announced it has pushed back its Grand Opening Celebration to 10am-1pm on Saturday, June 24th (with the soft opening on Saturday, June 17th). “Please join us for a fun day of face painting, balloon animal making, and t shirt decorating while checking out the newest baby friendly spot in Kentlands!” It will open at 375 Main St. in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood.

Carolynne Nowrouzi, founder/owner of Baby Bar, was raised in MoCo. She wanted to provide a space where parents can go with their young children to enjoy a space where they can each grab a bite and just play. The space will offer “food, fun, and socializing” where “you enjoy a coffee and a bite, while your little ones get yummy food and a baby-friendly place to play!” Baby Bar Kentlands will offer fresh fruits and veggies and will have options for babies (puréed or chopped), food for kids like grilled cheese, egg bites, croissants, and more, and food for adults like bagels, muffins, fruit bowls, and more. Gaithersburg’s Novavax, a global company advancing protein-based vaccines with its novel Matrix-MTM adjuvant, has signed a three-year agreement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute to provide its adjuvant for use in preclinical vaccine research. “We are excited to partner with the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute to include our unique technology in their public health-focused vaccine research efforts,” said John C. Jacobs, President and Chief Executive Officer, Novavax. “Our Matrix-MTM adjuvant is proven to enhance and broaden the immune system response when included in vaccines and is already a key component of COVID and malaria vaccines on the market today. We look forward to partnering more broadly with a variety of organizations so that our technology can benefit vaccine development across many disease areas.”

An annexation petition, proposing to annex properties that include the Walnut Hill Shopping Center into the City of Gaithersburg, has been filed by Granite Partners. The properties to be annexed are located northeast of MD Route 355 and include the Walnut Hill Shopping Center at 16531 South Frederick Avenue, a restaurant at 8941 North Westland Drive, a vacant parcel at 8939 North Westland Drive, and a portion of the right of way of North Westland Drive.

Granite Partners has submitted Annexation Petition X-9510-2023, proposing to annex three parcels that currently abut the City boundary, along with a portion of the North Westland Drive right of way.  The Annexation Plan proposes several changes to the existing Walnut Hill Shopping Center, including constructing a new freestanding convenience store with accessory gasoline pumps, demolishing an existing small freestanding building on the south side of the property, renovating the exterior of the main shopping center building, and making improvements to the parking lot and landscaping.  No changes are proposed for the other two properties included in the Annexation Petition.


Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg was included in a list of the “Top 10 Retail Experiences” in the country in 2022. With a beautiful lake/boardwalk and long-time favorites like the AMC theaters, Dick’s, Guapo’s, Target, and others still going strong, the retail area has recently welcomed new additions and plans to welcome more in the coming months. Auntie Anne’s Cinnabon: Auntie Anne’s/Cinnabon combination restaurant is now open at 220 Boardwalk Place in Rio, taking over the location that was recently home to Lilly Magilly’s– as the cupcakery is still preparing for a move to a new location. The two brands, popular for their presence in malls, are co-branding to open locations across the country. In recent years, Cinnabon left then returned to Montgomery Mall. There’s also an existing Cinnabon location in Wheaton Mall. Auntie Anne’s has locations at the outlets in Clarksburg, Ellsworth Place Mall, Montgomery Mall, and Wheaton Mall in MoCo.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision with rollover on Hadley Farms Dr and Woodfield Rd in Gaithersburg on Saturday, June 9, around 4pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the incident involved two vehicles.  Four patients were evaluated and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Bowlero Corp. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Lucky Strike Entertainment, LLC, the upscale bowling company with 14 locations across nine states. Bowlero owns Bowl America on Clopper Road in Gaithersburg and Bowlero Rockville on Shady Grove Rd in Gaithersburg. The acquisition adds the Lucky Strike brand, which has a Montgomery County location in Bethesda’s Montgomery Mall, and all other locations to Bowlero Corp.’s portfolio of bowling centers in North America, furthering its position as a leader in bowling entertainment. Bowlero will acquire the Lucky Strike business in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $90 million. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Investigations Division are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Motel 6 in the 400 block of Quince Orchard Rd. in Gaithersburg on Friday, May 26, 2023. Detectives have released photos of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

At approximately 12 a.m., the suspect was seen entering the room that was occupied by two female victims and then exiting the room approximately 15 minutes later. Upon exiting the room, the suspect grabbed one of the victim’s pink purse, which contained U.S. currency and displayed a knife towards the victims.  Both victims attempted to stop the suspect and a struggle ensued, which continued outside the hotel room. The suspect was then able to make good on his escape.


Per Gaithersburg Police: On June 06, 2023 at 10:30 p.m., an officer assigned to the Gaithersburg Police Department – Community Action Team was conducting focused enforcement in the area of the 200 block of Professional Drive. At that time, the officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation, and initiated a traffic stop.

During the course of the traffic stop, a narcotics detecting K9 responded to conduct a drug scan of the vehicle. After receiving a positive indication from the K9 for the presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a search of the vehicle was conducted resulting in the discovery of a loaded handgun under the driver seat and 18 vacuum sealed bags of marijuana in a mini backpack from the rear passenger seat. The driver, 44-years-old, male from Montgomery Village, MD was arrested and transported to the Central Processing Unit for processing and formal charging. The passenger, 37-years-old, female from Rockville, MD was also arrested on outstanding warrants from another county.


Red Door Escape Room is opening its 14th location at 125 Boardwalk Place in Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront Shopping Center today.
