Detectives Investigate Burglary of Beer & Wine Store in Gaithersburg; Surveillance Video of Suspect Released

At approximately 2:17 a.m., 6th District officers responded to the location for the report of a commercial burglary that occurred earlier. The investigation by detectives has determined that the suspect forced entry into the store, stole merchandise and a cash drawer that contained an undisclosed amount of money and left the scene. The suspect is described as an adult Black male, medium build, average height, with beard and mustache, wearing a baseball cap, a jacket, cargo pants and dark shoes. Detectives reviewed the surveillance footage of the store and obtained photographs of the suspect.

Wawa in Adelphi to Open November 10; Update on Upcoming Gaithersburg Location

The new Wawa at 9100 Riggs Rd in Adelphi, MD is scheduled to open on November 10. The location, which features a 5,619 square foot food and beverage store and a gas station, will be located on the Southwest corner of Adelphi Rd and Riggs Rd, just across Adelphi Rd from the existing 7-Eleven and Popeyes. Wawa also opened a location at 2200 Pulaski Highway in Edgewood, MD last month.

As for MoCo’s first Wawa, construction on the Gaithersburg location is ongoing (photos below). The convenience store/gas station will be taking over the site of the old Becraft Antiques location on 355, across from Gaithersburg High School at 405 S Frederick Ave. We first let you know the news of Wawa’s first planned MoCo location in May of 2019. Since then, the first MoCo Royal Farms was announced, constructed, and opened in Gaithersburg and the first MoCo Sheetz location was announced.

Mendez Rodriguez is approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs 125 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a mole under his nose. He was last seen wearing a blue/grey sweater and blue jeans. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

19-Year-Old Arrested for Germantown Murder; MCPD Announces 100 Percent Closure Rate for Homicides in 2022

On February 10, 2022, 5th District officers responded to the location of Cinnamon Drive and Mustard Seed Court for the report of a shooting that just occurred. Officers arrived at the scene and located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers provided life saving measures until fire rescue arrived and transported Jones to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Jones, of Germantown, subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital on February 11, 2022.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify Mcroy as a suspect. On October 27, 2022, Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office indicted Mcroy with first-degree murder in reference to the homicide of Keon Jones. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Sunday Night Collision Injures Three in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision late Sunday night in front of Fire Station 708 in Gaithersburg on Montgomery Village Ave and Russell Ave, according to Battalion Fire Chief James Carpenter.

The collision occurred at approximately 10:15pm and led to three patients being evaluated with non-life threatening injuries. One person was transported to the hospital following the collision. Additional photos below, per acting PIO James Carpenter.

Collision Sunday Afternoon at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds

The Mongomery County Agricultural Center Inc. (MCAC) was formed as a privately operated 501(c) (3) non-profit organization on January 7, 1949, when a group of local farmers were elected as the first Board of Directors by the volunteer membership of the organization. The MCAC had recently purchased 64 acres of land adjacent to the railroad tracks from Herman Rabbitt, a successful farmer and landowner in Gaithersburg. On June 4th, 1949, hundreds of volunteers participated in after an old-fashioned barn raising and 12 outbuildings were constructed in one day. The site of the new Montgomery County Agricultural Center was created. Dedicated volunteers donated time, materials and talent to construct and continue operation of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds would not be what it is today if it were not for those visionary pioneers who were committed to agricultural education and family entertainment.

As is true today for the agricultural center, the volunteers were, and still are, necessary to the successful operation of the Fairgrounds, through continued contributions of materials and free labor for the construction of the new facilities, as well as upgrading the old. A network of more than 2,000 volunteers continue providing their time, making the agricultural center a vital part of the business community in Montgomery County. The nine day Montgomery County Agricultural Fair that is held in mid-August requires support from over 800 volunteers who assume the responsibility for organizing and producing the single largest annual event in Montgomery County.

City of Gaithersburg Veterans Day Observance

The entire community is invited to join the City for its annual Veterans Day Observance on Friday, November 11, 2022, honoring & recognizing all U.S. military personnel who play an important role in safeguarding our nation and our future. The observance takes place at 11 a.m. at the Concert Pavilion.

The patriotic ceremony will include words and music to commemorate the occasion, followed by a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. City officials & members of local veterans groups will be on hand to honor those who have served in all branches of the military. The ceremony will begin with a Presentation of Colors. Junior Mayor Loriele Nix will lead the Pledge of Allegiance & 2020 Young Artist Award winner Chloe Jackson will sing the National Anthem. The Gaithersburg High School Jazz Ensemble will perform patriotic music & Gaithersburg High School Band member Marli Banner will play “Taps.” A reception with refreshments will immediately follow the ceremony in the City Hall Gallery.

Gaithersburg Police Seeks Public’s Assistance in Locating Missing Woman

Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department – Investigative Section are asking the public for help in locating a missing Gaithersburg woman. Allure Isabella Mack age 20, was last seen by her family on Wednesday, October 26, at approximately 9:40 p.m., in Gaithersburg. Family has been unable to contact her since that time.

Allure Mack is approximately 5’00” tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds. Police and family are concerned for Allure Mack’s welfare. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Allure Isabella Mack or anyone who sees her is asked to call the Montgomery County Police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000 (24-hour line). Crown High School Expected to Open Fall 2027

The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the design plans for Crown High School back on March 24, 2022. The $180 million high school will be located in the undeveloped 30 acre site that is adjacent to Crown Neighborhood Three and is located at the intersection of Fields Road and Omega Drive (photo of exact location below). The school is expected to open in the fall of 2027.

The new school will relieve crowding at Gaithersburg, Northwest, Quince Orchard, Thomas S. Wootton and Richard Montgomery high schools. According the presentation from earlier this year, the school will be a five story building that will utilize onsite renewable energy sources such as solar panels and geothermal energy. The City of Gaithersburg was able to secure the site as part of the negotiations related to the Crown Farm Annexation Agreement X-182 on August 7, 2006.

My Cup Runneth Over Southern Cuisine Now Open in Gaithersburg

My Cup Runneth Over Southern Cuisine is now open at 8405 Snouffer School Rd in Gaithersburg. The restaurant is located at the former site of Jazzy Seafood. My Cup Runneth Over had previously been running a food truck at 9801 Centerway Rd in Montgomery Village. The restaurant is currently open Tuesday-Thursday 11am to 7pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-8pm, and Sunday 11am-6pm.

According to their website, “Established in 2010, we started out in Jackson, MS where we owned a coffee shop/bakery & our Downtown location was full scale. We relocated back to Maryland in 2016 where we now cater & operate a mobile food truck. We specialize in southern Soul Food; Smoked BBQ ribs, Fried catfish, pulled pork, shrimp po-boy, buffalo wings, fried chicken, mac n cheese, collard greens, candied yams, bbq baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw a variety of cakes & desserts.”

Update on Taco Bamba in Gaithersburg

The upcoming Taco Bamba location in Gaithersburg is now projecting to open this winter, according to a report by Bethesda Beat. The new restaurant will be located in the space that was formerly home to Urban Crawfish at 670 Quince Orchard Road, next to the recently opened Miyaji Kebab and Rumali Rolls (which is next to Beers & Cheers Too). According to Taco Bamba’s Facebook page, the restaurant will be holding several job fairs in November. We will post an update when an opening date is announced.

Chef Victor Albisu opened the first Maryland location of Taco Bamba in Rockville’s Congressional Plaza in June 2021. Albisu stated that Maryland is a “priority area of growth for Taco Bamba” citing the line at last year’s Rockville opening, according to a report by Bethesda Beat. “We can’t wait to build a whole new food and cocktail menu for our friends in Gaithersburg. It’s a town with an eclectic mix of restaurants serving a diverse community that knows good food.” There are additional Taco Bamba locations in Ballston, Fairfax, Falls Church, Landmark, and Vienna, VA.
