Café Sophie, a European boutique style café with Scandinavian influence, is now open at the Montgomery County Airport (7940 Airpark Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20879). Cafe Sophie will offers indoor and outdoor air-side dining and serves breakfast, lunch, and grab ‘n go sandwiches.

Back in January we let you know that Java Nation would be moving in to 121 Market Strert in the Kentlands neighborhood of Gaithersburg, which was formerly a Starbucks. Starbucks opened a new Kentlands location at 160 Kentlands Blvd earlier this year that features a drive-thru.

This summer we were told there have been material and equipment delays by manufacturers, pushing the opening timeframe from August to October.


Curry Place at 385 Muddy Branch Rd in Gaithersburg has permanently closed. Grocery store India Bazaar, which is located next door at 383 Muddy Branch Rd, will be expanding into the space formerly occupied by the restaurant.

The Curry Place locations at 12951 Wisteria Dr in Germantown and 11229 New Hampshire Ave in White Oak are still open. The restaurant said they don’t have plans at this time to open another location in Gaithersburg.


Press Release From the City of Gaithersburg on a Grand Jury’s Decision to Not Indict Officers Involved in January 8 Shooting Death of Kwamena Ocran

Per the City of Gaithersburg:


Larry Hurd, current head coach of the Walter Johnson High School football team, will be inducted into the Quince Orchard High School hall of fame this evening.

Hurd, who attended Quince Orchard from 1988-1992, was a member of the state championship winning football team in 1991.


Officers Will Not Be Charged For Death of Kwamena Ocran, Man Shot by Police in Gaithersburg in January

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office sent out a press release this evening announcing that a Montgomery County Grand Jury declined to indict the Gaithersburg Police Officers involved in the January 8th shooting of Kwamena Orcan, 24.


According to recent renderings and plans submitted to the City of Gaithersburg, a new Chick-Fil-A restaurant is planned for 700 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg, MD at Progress Labs. Progress Labs is a 44-acre property that directly fronts I-270 at the Montgomery Village Avenue exit. and is located next door to the recently constructed 300,000 square foot FedEx Ground facility, just south of the new Watkins Mill Interchange.
