I don’t think “cursed” is the right word for it, but there are definitely locations in the county that have not had the best of luck with long-lasting businesses.
With that said, I’d like to discuss the one location that I feel may be the unluckiest of them all. 654 Centerpoint Way in the Kentlands in Gaithersburg. This location has been home to The Last Mango, Zodiac Grill, Tony and James, 44 Sports Bar and Grill, and most recently Largent’s Restaurant and Bar.
This was expected, as construction was scheduled to start January 1st, but the closing date was previously unsure. Kimco Realty announced that they’ll be renovating the theatre to make room for Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas, creating a walkway from where Persians Gallery is now, through the building to Market Street.
A few interesting upgrades that’ll be included in the revitalization:
Montgomery County Council Member, Roger Berliner, tweeted the following about prepaying property tax in MoCo: “The County issued an update on the property tax prepayment option & the IRS advisory on this matter: bit.ly/2E7UrZK. It is very disappointing. We did what we could. Do consult with your tax adviser before considering prepayments.”
Popular Silver Spring coffee shop, Bump ‘N Grind, is holding the grand opening of their kiosk at Ellsworth Place (formerly City Place Mall). Ellsworth Place is slowly but surely making the right moves.

Cupcakes seem to have weathered the storm, so maybe they’re here to stay! I’m an ice cream guy and always found myself settling for frozen yogurt because there were so many places I could get it. I can’t say I’m upset, but I always feel for a business when they’re forced to close their doors.
Since I’m a huge fan of lists, I wanted to create an accurate list of the “best” places to buy in MoCo. In order to make this list accurate I asked local realtor, Jonathan Fox, to help me break down the county’s “best” areas and include a few up and coming areas that he thinks are due for a dramatic increase in price over the coming years. One of our Twitter followers informed us of a rumor swirling around Olney about the possibility of Sakura closing and being replaced with an IHOP. For what it’s worth, I called Sakura last night and the manager told me that this is not true.
K-Mart and Payless in the Kentlands will both close by the end of this summer.
