Justin Riggs, 35, of Smithsburg, Maryland, who was serving as a Maryland State Trooper, pleaded guilty yesterday to federal charges of Conspiracy to Distribute and Conspiracy to Possess with the Intent to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substances, Use of a Communication Facility in Causing or Facilitating the Conspiracy to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substances, and Travel Act-State of Maryland Bribery.

Bill MD SB613 was introduced on January 28th by Senator Jeff Waldstreicher (D–Montgomery County, District 18) and Senator Michael Jackson (D-Prince George’s County, District 27) to establish a pilot program that permits the use of video cameras in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County to enforce specific prohibitions related to the use of mobile devices while operating a vehicle.
A federal grand jury indicted David Alain Schmidt, 43, of Silver Spring, Maryland, charging him with producing and possessing child sexual abuse material.
Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that Rhonda Keisha Powell of Upper Marlboro was sentenced to 45 days in jail, five years of supervised probation, and ordered to pay $58,373 in restitution after pleading guilty to felony insurance fraud for filing false claims with USAA in 2020 and 2022. After more than 90 years of serving Ocean City, MD, Alaska Stand on 9th street has announced it will be closing. In a message to the community, the owners expressed gratitude for the memories shared at the 9th Street Boardwalk location and confirmed that Thrasher’s Fries will take over the space. (more…)
Last October, Buy Buy Baby announced that it will be closing all existing stores and transforming into a digital-first brand “focusing all our energy on providing an exceptional online shopping experience.” The last day for its Rockville location (1683 Rockville Pike), which is the first location to ever open, will be Tuesday, February 25th, an employee confirmed this morning.
