With around 59% of the United States population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and vaccination being essential for getting the economy back on track, WalletHub today released updated rankings for the Safest States During COVID-19.

In order to find out the safest states during the COVID-19 pandemic, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across five key metrics.


Former United States President Donald Trump released a statement today endorsing Dan Cox for Maryland Governor. Cox is a Republican politician who represents district 4 in the Maryland House of Delegates. He made waves earlier this year when he referred to former Vice President Mike Pence a “traitor” during the 2021 United States Capitol Attack. In the statement, Trump goes after current Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Republican gubernatorial candidate Kelly Schulz, who currently serves as the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Commerce. The Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) board has approved rate ranges for toll lanes in Governor Hogan’s proposal to widen I-270 and part of I-495.

The MDTA is involved in selecting the Phase 1 South: American Legion Bridge I-270 to I-370 Section Developer and has many responsibilities, including establishing the minimum and maximum toll rate ranges and setting the soft rate caps, maintaining tolling customer accounts and interactions, transferring toll revenue to the Phase 1 South Section Developer, issuing bonds, utilizing updated Customer Service Center and back-office systems, establishing operating reserves and administering toll collection.

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced Maryland as the first state in the country to become a partner in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Climate Challenge. The “lead by example” partnership agreement, signed by Secretary Ben Grumbles of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), commits the state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in state government operations by at least 50% within 10 years.


Earlier today Governor Hogan tweeted his support to get sports gambling started in Maryland, “We are pleased that the legislature’s sport wagering commission has finally acted to approve these licenses.

Our administration will continue to work to get sports betting up and running in Maryland as quickly as possible.”

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced that, according to official CDC data, 99% of Marylanders 65 and older have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The state continues to lead the region—and ranks in the top 10 in the nation—in boosters for seniors.

The governor also announced that the state has already surpassed 50,000 vaccinations for 5- to 11-year-olds.


Maryland came in 2nd in the nation in a report by personal-finance website WalletHub that ranks the generosity of states based on charitable behavior.

With Americans having donated over $471 billion in 2020, up 5.1% from the previous year, WalletHub today released its report on the Most Charitable States for 2022.
