MCPS recently shared that Lorena Wu, a rising junior at Poolesville High School, was officially sworn in as Maryland’s Student Member of the Board for the 2026-2027 term on July 1 after being appointed earlier this year by Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

Maryland holds the unique distinction of being the only U.S. state without any natural lakes. While the state boasts an abundance of rivers, streams, and the extensive Chesapeake Bay, you won’t find a single body of water formed by natural geological processes that is classified as a natural lake within its borders.
