Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services were called to the scene of a basement fire on the 700 block of Elm St., off of Ethan Allen Ave., in Takoma Park at approximately 11pm on Wednesday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews arrived to find a fire in the basement of a single family home and were able to knock down the bulk of the fire by 11:19pm. The fire was fully extinguished soon after and no injuries were reported. Three residents have been displaced and damage totaled to approximately $55K ($30K in contents and $25K was structural).


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire at a single family home on the 10800 block of Brickyard Ct., near Falls Rd., in Potomac at approximately 10:16pm on Wednesday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, approximately 65 firefighters were on the scene battling the heavy fire that was showing upon arrival. All occupants were able to get out safely, but the family of two adults, two children, and a guest, has been displaced. Damage is estimated to be at $2 million + and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.


While directing traffic on scene of collision on Monday afternoon, a Montgomery County firefighter who was wearing protective safety equipment in a high visibility traffic vest was struck and dragged before the driver/car came to a stop, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Chief (MCFRS) Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

The injured firefighter was transported to the hospital, where he treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The incident occurred on the 10000 block of Lewisdale Rd, near Urbana Rd, in Ijamsville. ‘It could have been worse, much worse,’ the injured firefighter said in a Firehouse News article.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire Monday morning around 4:30am on Village Gate Dr in Layhill. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire originated on the exterior of the single-family home’s garage and was likely caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

Smoke alarms alerted the occupants of the home and there were no injuries reported. Four adults and three children have been displaced and damage is estimated to be ~$50K.


Bassett’s Restaurant at 19950 Fisher Ave in Poolesville plans to reopen in about 2-3 weeks. The restaurant closed due to a fire on June 5.

Owner Erika Myers tells us they are working hard to get everything back up and running and that repairs are scheduled to begin on Monday. Fortunately, the fire was located in a small building in the back, with no extension to the main building.


It is illegal for any person to manufacture, possess, store, offer for sale, sell, discharge, use, burn or explode any fireworks in Montgomery County, Maryland, except that an authorized display may be conducted by a licensed pyrotechnic professional with a permit. Penalties for violations of the law include a fine up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail. All fireworks are illegal in Montgomery County, Prince George’s County and the City of Baltimore. In Montgomery County, ALL fireworks are illegal to possess or discharge including gold label sparklers. Snap-and-pop noise makers, snakes and party poppers are the only exception to this law.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision with rollover on Hadley Farms Dr and Woodfield Rd in Gaithersburg on Saturday, June 9, around 4pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the incident involved two vehicles.  Four patients were evaluated and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire in the 2500blk of Glenallan Avenue, between Georgia Avenue and Layhill Road, at the Atelier Apartments around 6pm on Friday, May 9.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was located on the exterior of the building and there was little/minor extension. Approximately 45 firefighters responded to the scene and there were no injuries reported. The building was evacuated as a precautionary measure.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a vehicle into a building in the 500 blk of E Gude Dr in Rockville (Peter’s Grill) on Wednesday, May 7 around 7:30pm.

According to Assistant Chief with MCFRS David Pazos, two adults with non-life threatening injuries are being transported to local hospitals. The investigation by detectives has revealed that on Saturday, July 23, 2022, the suspect entered the store, pointed a handgun at the employees and demanded money. The suspect removed an undisclosed amount of money from the registers and left the scene.
