Christmas Lights Cause Exterior Fire on Monday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a house fire on Foxlair Rd, off of Huntmaster Rd, in the Gaithersburg/Laytonsville area at approximately 9:45 on Monday night after a passerby reported the house on fire.

According to MCFRA Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the situation involved the exterior of the home being on fire due to decorative Christmas lights. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire “mostly out”, and completed extinguishing what was left. There were no injuries, but there was approximately $25k incurred in damage.

Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Tanker Truck Crash In Frederick County

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal tanker truck crash that occurred early this afternoon in Frederick County. Shortly before noon, troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack responded to US-15 North, approximately a half mile north of Rosemont Avenue, for a report of a tanker truck that crashed into a tree and caught fire.

The driver of the tanker truck, whose identity has not been confirmed at this time, was declared deceased at the scene. According to a preliminary investigation, six homes and five vehicles suffered damage from the fire that originated from the tanker truck crash. No other injuries or fatalities were reported as a result of the crash or the subsequent fires. US-15 was temporarily closed in both directions following the crash. The southbound lanes were reopened by 2:30 p.m., while the northbound lanes will remain closed for several hours.

Two Displaced Following Gaithersburg Townhouse Fire

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire at a middle-of-the-row townhouse on Travis Court in Gaithersburg at approximately 6:30pm on Thursday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire started on the second floor of the house and was contained to the bedroom. Red Cross assisted and two occupants have been displaced. There were no injuries.

Driver of Van Who Caused Metrobus to Crash Into Jewelry Store Thursday Morning Has Been Charged With Four Infractions, According to Police

WMATA Transit Police tweeted the following regarding the Metrobus crash into a jewelry store in weekend this morning: “Driver of van that caused morning Metrobus accident charged with 4 infractions: (1) unsafe lane change, (2) failure to control speed to avoid a collision, (3) improper right turn, and (4) failure to wear corrective lens. Thx to @mcpnews and @mcfrs for their on-the-scene support.”

Bus Crashes Into Jewelry Store in Wheaton

A collision involving a Metro bus has Veirs Mill Rd shut down between Reedie Dr and University Blvd, according to Montgomery County Police. Drivers should expect delays and are advised to seek alternate routes. The incident occurred at the Jewelry Buyers at 2575 Ennalls Ave in Wheaton around 9:30am on Thursday, March 2. Per Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services: “Montgomery County Fire Rescue is currently active at an incident located on the corner of Veirs Mill Road and Ennalls Avenue. Bus versus car with the bus into a building. 3 people transported with non-life threatening injuries.” We will post an update when additional information is available. Collision Sends One Person to the Hospital Monday Afternoon

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a a collision that occurred on Shady Grove Rd near MidCounty Highway on Monday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the collision trapped one person inside the vehicle. That person was extricated by MCFRS crews and transported to the hospital with priority 2 (urgent) trauma.

Driver Crashes Into Ice Skating Rink in Rockville Town Square; No Pedestrians Injured

Per Rockville Police: “Traffic Collision – 2/26/23 at 5:23 p.m. Maryland Ave/Rockville Town Center. Vehicle crashed into ice rink, driver and passenger transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Thankfully, no pedestrians or skaters injured.”

MCFRS Respond to Fire at Two-Story Apartment Building Thursday Morning; No Injuries, Several People May Be Displaced

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) respinded to call for a fire in a second floor bedroom of a two-story apartment building on the 8300 block of Roanoke Ave, off of Hudson Ave in Takoma Park, a little before 6:30am on Thursday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the building was evacuated, but the fire was extinguished with some extension and without any injuries. Several people may be displaced and damage is estimated at approximately $20K.

Montgomery Housing Project is Accepting Donations For Those Affected by Saturday’s Fire at Silver Spring Apartment Complex (Hundreds Displaced)

A fire that took place on Saturday, February 18th at the Arrive high-rise apartment complex on Georgia Avenue in Downtown Silver Spring resulted in one fatality and injuries to multiple residents, as well as the displacement of hundreds of residents. At the request of Montgomery County, Montgomery Housing Project (MHP) is managing a dedicated relief fund to assist those affected by the fire. One-hundred percent of donations will go directly to those affected.

Per MHP: “While this is not an MHP property, we maintain close ties with the community through the many affordable housing properties we have developed in Montgomery County, and are playing a role by managing financial donations to help impacted residents. Thank you for lending a hand to our neighbors!” Donations can be made here.

One Dead After Early Morning Crash on I-495 Near Rockville Pike

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision with entrapment this morning around 5am on the inner loop of I495 after Old Georgetown Rd, in the area of Rt355. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a vehicle caught on fire after it went off the road and into a wooded area. There were two occupants inside the vehicle; one patient was extricated and transported with Priority 3, non-life threatening injuries, another young adult patient had Priority 1 traumatic life-threatening injuries and died on scene. Dog Rescued From Construction Hole Monday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a “big dog” stuck in a construction hole on the 700 block of of Kersey Rd, off of Arcola Ave, in the Kemp Mill area of Silver Spring at approximately 9pm on Monday night (photo below).

MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer described the dog as a “fairly large, fluffy, family dog” who was walking in the backyard and fell into a construction hole and got stuck. Rescue crews, assisted by Technical Rescue Team TR700, were able to rescue the dog after about an hour. The dog was unharmed.
