Several Families in Olney Displaced After Friday’s Storm

Friday’s Thunderstorms, which also brought Tornado Warninga for several parts of the county, caused damages to a handful of homes on Tanterra Way in Olney when all was said and done on Friday afternoon, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services PIO Pete Piringer.

Piringer showed the damage that was incurred by several homes in the Olney neighborhood off of Queen Elizabeth Drive. Thankfully, there were no injuries, but several families were displaced due to the damage, which can be seen below.

Life Time Fitness Lifeguards Recognized as ‘Everyday Heroes’ For Saving Life of Swimmer Last Year

Life Time Fitness lifeguards Megan Davis, Olivia Fahlbush, Amelia Grant, Jessica Perkins, and Caleigh Wilson were recognized as ‘Everyday Heroes’ by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) earlier this month for their role in saving the life of a swimmer who suffered from a medical emergency in the pool at the Gaithersburg gym last December.

According to MCFRS Public Information Officer Pete Piringer, the lifeguards recognized the medical emergency, rescued the unconscious patient from the water, and performed life-saving measures until MCFRS crews from Travilah and Gaithersburg arrived.

Collision on 370 Blocks Some Lanes at Shady Grove Road

A collision on EB I370 has closed several lanes in the area of Shady Grove Road. EB I370 is down to left lane only just prior to Shady Grove. The collision occurred around 11:30am on Thursday, May 26. Two adults were transported to an area trauma center after being evaluated EMS, according to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Pete Piringer.

Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and expect significant delays.

MCFRS Respond to House Fires on May 23 and 24

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services are on the scene of a fire in a detached garage in the 13300blk of Old Columbia Pk. in the Burtonsville area, according to MCFRS Battalion Chief Steve Mann. The fire has been knocked down and investigators are in route. There were no injuries reported. Old Columbia Pk. is closed in the area of Cherry Hill and Fairland. Drivers are being advised to seek alternate routes and to expect significant delays. MCFRS responded to the call around 3:30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

MCFRS responded to a porch fire on Monday evening around 7pm the 7300blk Warfield Rd. near Woodfield Rd in Laytonsville a. The fire, which was described as a “cooking mishap,” was quickly extinguished with minimal extension. There were no injuries reported and damage is estimated to be around $40,000 ($30k Structure/$10k Contents) according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS’ Pete Piringer. Photos of both incidents below:

Dashcam Records Sunday Evening Crash That Closed NB 270 on Sunday Evening

A collision involving a tractor trailer (with several other collisions in the area) has sent one child to the hospital with a traumatic injury on Sunday evening, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.

The collision occurred at approximately 5:10pm, based on the time stamp on a dashcam video that recorded the crash. The video shows the tractor trailer swerving from the local lanes to the express lanes to avoid hitting a white SUV.

Successful Water Rescue in Brookeville Sunday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of an occupied vehicle in rising water on Brighton Dam Rd between Georgia Avenue and Bordly Road in the Brookeville area at approximately 8:30pm on Sunday night, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was trapped in over 2 feet of rising water approximately 80 feet from high ground/shoreline. Water began to enter the stalled vehicle when rescue crews used a boat to to move the vehicle to higher ground. There were no apparent injuries and the road was closed due to the rising water.

One Child Transported to Hospital Due to Tractor Trailer Crash on I-270

A collision involving a tractor trailer (with several other collisions in the area) has sent one child to the hospital with a traumatic injury on Sunday evening, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.

The collision involving the tractor trailer occurred at approximately 5:15pm on northbound I-270 prior to exit 11. HazMat crews are on the scene to assist with a fuel leak from the tractor trailer. All northbound lanes are blocked, as the crash occurred on the express lanes with pieces of the concrete median falling into the local lanes.

Two Safely Removed From Vehicle After Live Wires Trap Them in Car; Part of New Hampshire Ave Closed

New Hampshire Avenue is closed between Brighton Knolls Drive and River Mist Ct in Brinklow (includes Gold Mine Rd), according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue PIO Pete Piringer.

Crews were initially dispatched to New Hampshire Ave. near Brighton Knolls Drive for extensive storm damage. BGE was on the scene for wires down and damaged utility poles that has resulted in power out in are. Two people were trapped in a vehicle with burning/sparking ‘live’ wires on car and we’re safely removed by MCFRS. The road is currently closed in that area.

Multiple Vehicles Struck by Airborne Tire on 495 Saturday Evening; Several Injuries Reported

Multiple vehicles were struck by an airborne tire that bounced across the inner loop and outer loop of I-495 near the Linden Lane overpass, between Georgia Ave. and Connecticut Ave., (Kensington/Silver Spring) on Saturday evening, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue PIO Pete Piringer.

According to Piringer, The airborne tire and debris only caused property damage on the inner loop, but resulted in several injuries on the outer loop including two adults being transported to the hospital with priority 1 (life threatening) traumatic injuries after the tire struck multiple moving vehicles.

Three Vehicle Collision Closes Lanes of New Hampshire Ave

A collision involving three vehicles occurred at approximately 8:45 this morning at SB New Hampshire Avenue and Route 108 in Ashton, according to MCFRS Public Information Officer Pete Piringer.

The collision has resulted in the closure of “some lanes”, but it is not clear how many at this moment. Three vehicles were involved and two patients were sent transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Tractor Trailer Cab Destroyed by Fire Early Wednesday Morning

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS) units were called to the Goshen Crossing shopping center on Goshen Rd. near Snouffer School Road for a vehicle fire just before 3am on Wednesday morning, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

The vehicle fire occurred in front of the Giant Food Store. The first arriving units found commercial tractor trailer vehicle fully-involved in a fire. The fire was extinguished with the assistance of HazMat crews due to a diesel fuel leak. The cab of the trailer was completely destroyed, causing approximately $50K in damages. There we no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
