The preliminary investigation has revealed that the school bus was turning left from East Village Avenue onto Plum Creek Drive when it was struck by a BMW traveling on East Village Avenue.  The driver and passenger of the BMW were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.  

There were six occupants on the school bus. Some occupants on the bus sustained minor injuries but none were transported to area hospitals.  


Montgomery County Police has released additional information regarding Thursday’s shooting at the Wheaton Metro station. According to MCPD, “The victim in yesterday’s Metro station shooting has died. This is now being investigated as a homicide.

At approximately 5:53 p.m., Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District officers were called to the Wheaton Metro station on Georgia Avenue, for a shooting that just occurred.  Preliminarily, there was an altercation between individuals on the escalator inside of the station. The dispute escalated and an 18-year-old male was shot on the train platform.


Montgomery County Police responded to a double shooting in Silver Spring on Thursday, May 18. According to police, “At approximately 5:20 p.m., MCPD responded to the 9200 block of New Hampshire Avenue for the report of a shooting that just occurred. Two adult male victims were transported to area hospitals. One victim was transported with non life threatening injuries. The second victim was transported in an unknown condition. No suspects are in custody at this time. This is an active and ongoing investigation.”

Montgomery County Police responded to a shooting at the Wheaton Metro station on Thursday, May 18 around 5:50pm. According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, the incident occurred near the escalators and there is no active shooter. Metro trains are currently not running between Silver Spring and Glenmont due to the investigation.

MCPD tweeted the following at 6:40pm: “Montgomery County Police are on scene of a shooting at the Wheaton Metro Station. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”


Angie was last seen on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in the 11500 block of Lockwood Drive. Angie is approximately 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black shirt, black sweatpants and black Crocs. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.

One person has been arrested after multiple shots were fired just after midnight on Thursday, May 18 in Germantown. According to police, “At approximately 12 a.m., MCPD responded to the 20100 block of Club Hill Drive for the report of shots fired. Preliminary investigation has determined that a building was struck by a round. No injuries have been reported. Suspect information was obtained. 5th District officers observed the vehicle. A brief pursuit ensued. An adult female suspect has been taken into custody. This is an ongoing investigation.”

Per MCPD: A Silver Spring man is in custody, one year after a home invasion and shooting of a 58-year-old woman. 27-year-old Saatehu Mesutmen has been charged with home invasion and first-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting the victim inside of her home in the 13200 block of Stravinsky Terrace in Silver Spring on Monday, April 11, 2022.

During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that the suspect, Mesutmen, fired multiple shots through the sliding glass door in the back of the house and entered the residence, where he located the victim and shot her. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition where she was treated in the Intensive Care Unit and later released. Mesutmen had no connection to the victim.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have arrested and charged 20-year-old Jose Roberto Hernandez-Penal of Hyattsville with first-degree rape, kidnapping and armed robbery. Detectives have released a photo of Hernandez-Penal and are urging anyone who may be a victim of a sexual assault by Hernandez-Penal to come forward.

On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, 3rd District officers responded to the Northwest Branch Trail in the 10700 block of Columbia Pike in Silver Spring for the report of a rape and an armed robbery. The investigation by detectives has revealed that at approximately 2:40 p.m., Hernandez-Penal approached two adult females on the Northwest Brach Trail, displayed a machete, stole their property and sexually assaulted one of the victims. Hernandez-Penal then left the scene.   Upon leaving the scene, Hernandez-Penal assaulted an adult male victim in the 1100 block of Devere Drive.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Emily Velasquez, a missing 15-year-old from Gaithersburg.

Emily was last seen on Monday, May 15, 2023, at approximately 11 p.m., in the 19300 block of Pointsetta Court in Gaithersburg.  Emily is approximately 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs 150. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are looking for two suspects involved in a robbery and vehicle pursuit that ended in Washington, DC. On Tuesday, May 16, at approximately 3:15 a.m., two Black male suspects entered the Dash-In Gas Station, in the 11100 block of New Hampshire Avenue. One of the suspects implied that he had a gun and demanded money from the cash register. The store employee complied and opened the register. The suspects left with an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes.

The suspects drove off in a white Hyundai Santa Fe, which was reported stolen out of Arlington, VA. 3rd District officers located the Hyundai in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Northampton Drive. The suspects drove away, and a pursuit was initiated, with the suspects driving into DC, where the vehicle crashed near New Hampshire and Longfellow. A female passenger was trapped inside of the Hyundai and extricated by DC Fire Rescue. The two male suspects managed to get out of the vehicle and run away. The female passenger was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No police officers or bystanders were injured during the pursuit. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
