Tim Kurkjian attended Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, where he played on the school’s basketball and baseball teams. At the suggestion of his basketball coach, Kurkjian began writing for the student newspaper, The Pitch, and the school’s yearbook, “The Wind-up.
He eventually became the sports editor of The Pitch and realized that journalism would be the surest means of fulfilling his childhood dream of making a living in professional sports. He graduated from the school in 1974 and after some time away, still lives in MoCo today.

Charles Snowden signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia back in May.
The 6’7 outside linebacker is from Silver Spring and started out at Blake High School before moving on to St. Alban’s in DC.
Back in March, NYCFC re-signed midfielder Gedion Zelalem. Today, the club won the MLS Cup– defeating Portland 4-2 in penalty kicks.
Zelalem played in 7 games this season, starting one, helping New York City to the Cup.
MCPS football coaches have released their 2021 All-MoCo football teams.

It’s been more than ten years since my youngest child graduated from QO, but I still follow QO football.
Springbrook Head Football Coach Dustin Jeter has been named the Washington Football Team’s High School Coach of the Week
The High School Coach of the Week program is a league-wide initiative designed to recognize area high school football coaches who continuously demonstrate hard work and dedication to their football programs, the health and safety of their players, and who make a difference in their communities. Each coach chosen throughout the high school football season will receive a $2,000 donation from the Washington Football Charitable Foundation to their football program.
The Montgomery County Varsity Volleyball Coaches have decided on their 2021 All-County teams. Each varsity coach gets one vote in determining the County Player of the Year, 1st Team-All County, 2nd Team All-County and Honorable Mention. Congratulations to all the girls selected this year!

Whitman Girls’ Soccer (14-2-1) has outscored opponents 55-2 since losing to Walter Johnson back in early October.
The team defeated Parkdale 13-0 in the State Quarterfinals before going on to beat fellow MCPS school Sherwood 8-0 in the Semifinals.
Christian Veilleux was a two-year letterman for head coach Patrick Cilento at the Bullis School in Potomac. Today, the freshman quarterback entered the game for Penn State after starter Sean Clifford was injured in the first quarter.
Prior to this game, Veilleux last threw a pass in a live game in November 2019, but he was still able to provide the spark the struggling Penn State offense needed. He threw for three touchdowns and 235 yards after the offense produced 32 yards and one first down on its first four possessions, prior to Veilleux entering the game.
