Committees will discuss the FY23 Operating Budget and Capital Improvements Programs

The Planning, Housing and Economic Development (PHED) Committee will meet on Monday, April 25, at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the FY23 Operating Budget for the Office of Agriculture (OAG), incubator programs, the Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) and the Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC). The committee will also discuss an FY23-28 CIP amendment for affordable housing acquisition and preservation, as well as FY22 supplemental appropriations for naturally occurring affordable housing and for loan repayment proceeds related to affordable housing acquisition and preservation.

Rockville, Md., April 22, 2022—On Monday, April 25 at 12:30 p.m., Montgomery County Council President Gabe Albornoz will host a media availability to discuss various Council matters, including feedback the Council has received regarding the County’s FY23 Operating Budget during its public hearings.


Former Maryland Governor Parris Glendening has endorsed Hans Riemer for Montgomery County Executive. Glendening, a Democrat, served as the 59th Governor of Maryland from January 18, 1995, to January 15, 2003. Previously, he was the County Executive of Prince George’s County from 1982 to 1994.

Republican Shelly Skolnick, 78, of Friendship Heights, has announced he will be running for Montgomery County Executive.

Skolnick previously ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Maryland’s 8th Congressional District in 2012, 2016, and 2020, and for an at-large seat on the Montgomery County Council in 2006, 2014, and 2018.


WTOP’s Kate Ryan reports that Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker has withdrawn his name from the County Executive race.

Hucker, who currently represents District 5 as a Councilmember, announced that he had formed an “exploratory” committee ahead of an expected bid back in July of 2021 before officially filing in December of last year.


Reardon Sullivan has announced his campaign for County Executive. Reardon is currently the chairman of Montgomery County’s Republican Central Committee (MCRCC), which is official organization of the Republican Party in Montgomery County.

He is currently the only GOP candidate to file, and would go up against the winner of the Democratic primary between incumbent Marc Elrich, David Blair, Tom Hucker, and Hans Riemer.
