Montgomery County Council committees will meet April 29 to review portions of the FY27 Operating Budget, including funding for the Office of the County Attorney, Department of Finance, debt service, public safety agencies, housing programs and tax policies.
The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed the Unmask ICE Act (Bill 5-26), which prohibits federal, state, and local law enforcement officers from wearing masks or facial coverings while on duty in the County, with limited exceptions.
Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass has introduced the Continued Excellence in Public Service Act, legislation that would require additional background review for applicants to the Montgomery County Police Department who previously participated in federal immigration enforcement efforts on or after January 21, 2025.
The Montgomery County Council has unanimously passed the Vehicle Recovery Act, an expedited measure aimed at reducing barriers for families seeking to recover impounded vehicles when the registered owner is not present. The legislation was introduced in response to an increase in federal immigration detentions, which can leave vehicles behind and create challenges for families attempting to retrieve them.
