County Executive Elrich Responds to Trump Administration Labeling Montgomery County a ‘Sanctuary Jurisdiction’

On Thursday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement in response to the Trump Administration’s designation of the County as a “sanctuary jurisdiction,” reaffirming that the county is not in violation of federal law and will not alter its policies based on political pressure. Elrich emphasized that the County will continue cooperating with federal immigration authorities in cases involving violent crimes and threats to public safety, while rejecting efforts to criminalize immigrants or divide the community. Montgomery County to Host Seventh Annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Councilmember Evan Glass, and other local leaders will host the County’s seventh annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony on Tuesday, June 3, at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Rockville, with speakers including MCPS inclusion specialist Yael Astor and MoCo Pride Center Executive Director Phillip Alexander Downie.

Montgomery County to Host 28th Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Germantown

Montgomery County, in partnership with local governments and organizations, will host its 28th annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, featuring live performances, vendors, food, and community programming under the theme “Pushing Back – The Fight for Freedom is Not Over.” The festivities begin with the African American Living Legends Awards Ceremony on June 20, honoring residents over age 75 for their significant contributions to the county, as leaders emphasize the importance of preserving and celebrating African American history and culture. Montgomery County Launches Annual Ride On Food Drive to Support Residents Facing Hunger

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and Manna Food Center will host the annual Ride On Food Drive from May 25 to May 31, allowing riders to donate non-perishable food items on Ride On buses in exchange for free fare, with all donations supporting local residents facing food insecurity.

Winners Announced for Montgomery County’s 2025 Girl Power Contest

The winners have been announced for the Montgomery County Commission for Women’s eighth annual Girl Power Contest, which celebrates Women’s History Month. Top entries in four age categories will be honored at a June 12 event and recognized online for their creative responses on how media can inspire and empower girls and women.

Community Advocacy Institute Graduates Largest Class in Program’s History

The Montgomery County Community Action Board celebrated the graduation of 27 residents from its Community Advocacy Institute (CAI) on May 20, the largest class in the program’s nine-year history. The free, bilingual program provides advocacy training for residents with low to moderate incomes and has graduated 167 participants since its launch in 2016. (more…)

Montgomery County Council to Vote on $7.6B FY26 Budget and Introduce New Capital Projects

The Montgomery County Council will meet on Thursday, May 22 to recognize Lupus Awareness Month and is scheduled to take final votes on the County’s $7.6 billion FY26 Operating Budget, $6 billion FY25-30 Capital Improvements Program, and introduce legislation for new capital projects including the Clarksburg Library and an organics processing facility.
