On Tuesday, Councilmembers Will Jawando and Laurie-Anne Sayles introduced Expedited Bill 23-24 to extend Montgomery County’s minority-owned business purchasing program until December 1, 2029. The bill aims to continue supporting minority, female, and disabled-owned businesses by addressing disparities in County contracting and procurement, following a recent study that highlighted significant disparities in various sectors. On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council approved a pilot program to deploy automated noise monitoring systems, or “noise cameras,” to help enforce state laws against excessive vehicular noise. Introduced by Vice President Kate Stewart and Councilmember Natali Fani-González, the program aims to reduce noise pollution by issuing warnings and fines for vehicles that exceed noise limits, with the pilot ending on June 30, 2026.
