Gaithersburg Police Investigating Monday Afternoon Stabbing

The Gaithersburg Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred on Monday, October 2. According to police, “Detectives are investigating a stabbing that occurred in the area N. Summit Ave & Park Ave. Today at approx 3:16 p.m., ofcs located a 27-years-old male victim suffering from lacerations. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Warns Public of Scam

Per the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office: “The Sheriff’s Office has been noticing an uptick in scam calls reported by residents of the County. Sheriff Uy would like to remind everyone that the Sheriff’s Office will NEVER ask for money or financial information over the phone. Also, it is important to remember that paying a “fine” will not clear up a warrant.

These scammers are giving the following fictitious story when they get an intended victim on the phone: “My name is (insert fake name) from the Sheriff’s Office (insert fake Section). You missed a court date/jury duty/failed to answer a summons, and the Judge has issued a warrant for your arrest. If you don’t pay a fine, my deputies will be coming to arrest you immediately.”

Fire Pits and Open Burning Guidelines, Restrictions and Safety Information

Many may want to spend quality time outdoors before winter, and the The Takoma Park police department has asked residents to be mindful of all Montgomery County rules regarding open burning and the use of fire pits. Please be sure you are adhering to all county guidelines and using precautions when using a fire pit:

POSTPONED: Germantown Volunteer Fire Department Open House

Update: This event has been postponed due to weather. The new date will be Saturday, October 28th from 12pm-3pm.

The Germantown Volunteer Fire Department and Montgomery County Police Department District 5 will be holding a joint event on Saturday, September 23 from 12pm-3pm at 20001 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown.

Collision Involving Pedestrian Closes Portion of New Hampshire Ave Wednesday Morning

Per Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination (MATOC): Crash with Injury. MD-650 SB (New Hampshire Ave.) at Cresthaven Drive. Montgomery County, MD. All travel lanes are blocked. Follow police directions in the area. Delays are building. Extended closure expected.

At 4:44am Montgomery County Police issued the following traffic advisory: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A traffic collision has southbound New Hampshire Ave. closed at Cresthaven Rd. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”

Portion of Darnestown Rd. Closed Wednesday Morning Due to Downed Wires

“TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Downed wires and fallen trees has Darnestown Road closed at Peach Tree Road. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”

Portion of Cabin John Parkway Closed Due to Standing Water Wednesday Morning

Montgomery County Police issued the following traffic advisory at 4:42am on Wednesday morning. As of 7am, an update has not been provided:

“TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Standing water from last nights storm has Cabin John Parkway closed from the 6500 block to the I-495 ramp. Drivers are advised to take an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”

Governor Wes Moore Announces More Than $11.5 Million in Highway Safety Grants; Over $172,000 Awarded to Montgomery County Police Agencies

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Wes Moore today announced more than $11.5 million in federal highway safety grants to organizations across Maryland as part of a statewide focus to prevent motor vehicle crashes and eliminate roadway fatalities. The federal funds will be distributed on Oct. 1 by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office to 85 agencies, organizations, and programs.

“These investments are critical to building and maintaining a safe, reliable and efficient transportation system in Maryland,” said Gov. Moore. “Our administration is committed to partnering with local governments, officials and advocacy groups to reduce roadway injuries and fatalities and to ensure that highway safety remains a top priority across the state.”

Montgomery County Police Mourns the Unexpected Loss of Sergeant Gregory Jordan

The Montgomery County Department of Police is mourning the loss of Sergeant Gregory Jordan. Per Montgomery County Police:

Sergeant Jordan passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Sergeant Jordan proudly served the department and the citizens of Montgomery County for thirty years and was currently assigned to the 3rd District station, where he worked in the White Oak neighborhood.

Rockville Police Department Offering ‘Fair and Impartial Policing’ Informational Training For Community

The Rockville City Police Department is offering a free Fair and Impartial Policing training for community members who would like to understand more about bias-free behavior in community policing. This event will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Social Hall at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre. Light refreshments will be served.

This training will give community members the tools needed to better communicate with police officers so that community members and police can work together and make their community safer and more resilient. An FIP national instructor will lead a roundtable discussion session specifically designed for community members, covering the following topics:
