Per Montgomery County: Youth members of the LGBTQ+ community will tell their stories—and share the challenges they have faced—in a virtual town hall meeting sponsored by EveryMind from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The panel members also will talk about support systems that have been helpful to them and offer ideas for improved support.
EveryMind, whose mission is to strengthen communities and empower individuals to reach optimal metal wellness, has structured the event to benefit parents, foster parents, caregivers, guardians, extended family members, mental health professionals and service providers who care for LGBTQ+ youth.
Montgomery County Police held a press conference today regarding a hit-and-run that occurred on Sunday, October 23rd at approximately 11 p.m., in the area of Georgia Avenue and Janet Road in Wheaton-Glemont. It was announced that the victim, William Villa Vicencio, 19, had passed away due to his injuries. He was described as a happy young man, the son of a single mom who raised three boys, that was looking forward to his 20th birthday. Assistant Police Chief Marc Yamada and the family’s pastor spoke at the conference.
William was coming home from work on his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle on Georgia Ave. Police are searching for a dark red or maroon vehicle, possibly a 2003-2007 Honda Accord, that is missing its right side view mirror and has damage to its front bumper. The driver did not remain on scene and detectives are asking anyone in the community with information to contact detectives at 240-773-6620. There were no cameras in the area of the accident. Police are offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
Pride in the Plaza will feature food, music, an LGBTQ+ focused resource and vendor fair, bilingual Drag Queen Story Hour, and the championship finale of Live in Your Truth Program’s Drag Duels series. The day will conclude with the second annual Pride in the Plaza Mini-Ball, a free voguing competition with cash prizes, starting at 5 p.m., in partnership with Capitol Ballroom Council. There will be a Pride Family Day event on Saturday, June 11 from 11am-2pm at Glen Echo Park (7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo). The event is being held in collaboration with County Council Vice President Evan Glass, who tells us:
This is my fourth year organizing Pride events throughout Montgomery County and the LGBTQ+ Family Day at Glen Echo Park is one of my favorites. This free event is wonderful way to celebrate all our families and our beautiful diversity.
Crafting Queer Resistance will explore the expanding world of queer makers within textiles, wood, ceramics and metal. The presentation will look at how queer makers’ unique experiences challenge the histories, techniques and materiality of their mediums.

The survey, which was drafted in collaboration with the County’s LGBTQ Advisory Board and launched by the Office of Community Partnerships, aims to gather data that will guide the future work of the County’s LGBTQ Liaison and LGBTQ Advisory Board.

Our LGBTQ+ community contributes to our history, economic vitality, and culture, building a brighter future for all.”
“As we celebrate Pride Month, it is an important time for us to celebrate the contributions of our LGBTQ residents,” said County Executive Elrich. “At the same time, we must recognize that many LGBTQ+ residents continue to deal with discrimination, isolation, threats of violence and assaults on their freedoms. One of our County’s greatest attributes is our commitment to inclusion, fostered by the belief that everyone, no matter their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identification, can live their lives without the bigotry and hatred they may face elsewhere. Our diversity makes us stronger as a County and as a community. I encourage all residents to participate in Pride Month events, gatherings and educational opportunities that the County government and our community partners will be hosting throughout the month.”

This event will be held on the lawn of Fairview Urban Park and begins at 6:00 pm with food and beverage for purchase from Giacomo’s Brick Oven Pizza, Clayboys Shave Ice, and Astro Lab Brewing. The show kicks off at 7:00 pm and guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets for viewing.
