The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is continuing its Sweep the Salt pilot program to remove excess road salt from streets near sensitive watershed areas, helping to prevent water contamination. MCDOT reported that the program collected nearly 50 tons of salt and debris following winter storms, and based on initial results, plans to continue the initiative next year.

Montgomery County Council committees will review amendments to the FY25-30 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) and the FY26 Capital Budget on March 20, focusing on projects such as the Olney Community Building, Olney Infant and Toddler Program site improvements, county office renovations, and Montgomery College facility upgrades. Discussions will include funding reallocations, infrastructure improvements, and accessibility enhancements, with key proposals like a $1.2 million elevator modernization project and a $12.4 million increase in Montgomery College’s CIP request.
The Montgomery County Council approved a resolution to establish the Infrastructure Funding Workgroup, which will assess the County’s schools, transportation, and parks infrastructure needs and recommend equitable and sustainable funding solutions. The workgroup, composed of County agencies and stakeholders, must submit a final report by June 30, 2026.
Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection will host its first World Water Day Celebration on March 22 at Wheaton Regional Park, featuring activities like guided nature walks, a piñata exhibit, and Youth Trout Fishing Day. The event, themed “Save Our Glaciers,” aims to raise awareness about freshwater conservation and will include partnerships with local organizations to highlight efforts in protecting waterways and ensuring clean drinking water.
