The Public Safety (PS) Committee will meet virtually on Monday, Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss Expedited Bill 49-21, Police – Police Accountability Board – Administrative Charging Committee – Established, which would establish a Police Accountability Board (PAB) and Administrative Charging Committee (ACC) for the County. Bill 49-21 was introduced by the Council President at the request of the County Executive.

The members of the PS Committee include Chair Sidney Katz, Council President Gabe Albornoz and Councilmember Tom Hucker.


Christopher Bolton, a lifelong MoCo resident who currently resides in Fairland, has announced his candidacy for County Council in District 5 (a new district in East County that spans from White Oak to Spencerville, Burtonsville, and parts of Leisure World).

Bolton is a Democrat who served in the navy for 5 years. He joins Brian Anleu, Fatmata Barrie, William “Chip” Montier, Daniel Koroma, Kristin Mink, and Jeremiah Pope in the District 5 race.


Blake High School athletic director Jared Fribush announced the hiring of Bryon Marshall as the new variety football head coach at the school. He has been the Junior variety head coach since 2017 and will be taking over for DeShawn Anderson, who stepped down following the fall season.

Per Montgomery County Police: A 17-year-old Magruder High School student is in custody following a shooting at the school on Friday, January 21, 2022.

At approximately 12:53 p.m., high school security became aware of a situation in one of the school bathrooms. A male Magruder High School student had been shot and 911 was called at approximately 12:57 p.m.


Montgomery County Police held a press conference at approximately 5:40pm regarding the shooting that took place at Magruder High School in Derwood earlier this afternoon. Speaking at the press conference were Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones and MCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight.

 


Seneca Valley High School has announced the hiring of Joseph Rankin as the new varsity football coach. Rankin, who graduated from Seneca Valley in 2009, played professionally for four years, including a stint with the Cleveland Browns.

He has been defensive coordinator at the school for the last three years under Justin Sickeri, who he takes over for.
